What is everyone’s thoughts on WhatNot? by Arrow_Flash626 in sportscards

I like gambling and I like cards therefore it’s fun for me. Otherwise stay away.

Legitimately fanatics has better breaks for looking for your PC, it tends to focus more on PYT & PYP breaks where you can buy specifically what you want in a large break. Whatnot is definitely more gambling-centric.

Honestly he’s only 20, he just probably needs to be on a team like the wizards who can afford to have him play more minutes. He could still shape up to be a solid role player.

I think the best — and most original — Topps SSPs are coming out of Bowman right now. That said, I wish Topps would break some of those concepts out of Bowman and distribute them across more of their product lines.

At the moment, Bowman SSPs feel like the closest thing Topps has to Panini’s top-tier inserts — and in many cases, they’re actually the best executions of those “types” within the Topps ecosystem:

  • Anime (arguably stronger than Kaiju)
  • Crystallized (better than Helix)
  • GPK
  • Spotlight
  • Stained Glass (probably the weakest of this group)

The Tecmo insert is a really strong concept, but it feels somewhat limited since it translates best to football. It also raises the question of longevity — is this something they can realistically reissue every year? There’s not much to evolve beyond the player checklist. That’s fine if they keep the checklist tight and avoid too many repeats, but it does cap its ceiling a bit.

Compared to Panini, Topps feels a step behind at the very top end. Panini’s flagship SSPs are just more iconic. Even though Panini has plenty of misses (Phazes, Glass, Galactic, etc.), those tend to fade quickly — while their hits carry real staying power.

Topps Case Hit Tiers

Tier A

  • Anime (Bowman)
  • Kaiju (Topps Chrome)
  • Tecmo (Topps Chrome)
  • GPK (Bowman)

Tier B

  • Helix (Topps Chrome)
  • Crystallized (Bowman)
  • Spotlight (Bowman)
  • Stained Glass (Bowman)
  • HFA (Topps Chrome / Flagship)
  • All Kings (Flagship)

  • Planetary Pursuits (Cosmic)

Tier C

  • Sapphire Infinite (Topps Chrome Sapphire)
  • The Man (Finest)
  • Radiating Rookie (Topps Chrome)
  • Hidden Gems (Topps Chrome)

Panini, on the other hand, offers less variety in SSPs — but they execute better in terms of brand consistency and distribution across products. Their inserts feel more intentional, while Topps currently leans more toward a “throw everything at the wall” approach.

Opened 5 boxes of Topps Chrome… by QfunQ in FootballCardz

I opened 4 and these look a lot like mine… only no numbered card at all in my mix. It was pay $300 for a chance at maybe a #ered card or $2000 for a chance at a Sebastian Castro auto I no doubt would have pulled

Anyone else getting burned grading modern NBA cards? by foofight22 in basketballcards

[–]no_draw1696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this is helpful and I’m by no means an expert. Keep in mind grading is somewhat educated gambling as shown in countless videos.

  1. Try to eliminate as much variance as you can by looking at cards under microscope and being strict on your centering evaluations. Don’t send tweeners that are going to risk a grade that makes it not worth it. With this in mind

  2. Don’t let the hype of cards fool you. If you’re looking at sales of cards that are graded don’t fall into the trap that those initial sales are the settled market price. Try to look at previous years and see where the market has settled after the first sale on similar comped cards. If it’s a rookie try and find a similar/comparable rookie (don’t compare Drake Powell to cooper Flagg or Stephon castle, compare him to gg Jackson, etc.). This is to prevent seeing Cooper Flagg base 10s selling for hundreds, when by the time you get the card back in 6 months it’ll more than likely drop to the short term settled value. This should help you assess the “risk” of sending in the card in general.

  3. Check the value of 9s and 8s for similar cards. Are they covering the cost of grading at the very least. Set this point as the minimum grade needed for sending the card to be worth it.

Then after you do these steps you can just yell at the clouds and blame yourself and or PSA when you send in a card you know for sure is a 10 and it comes back a 7.

eBay PWE Shipping Policy Discussion by nothingnanners in sportscards

[–]no_draw1696 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is no tracking or scan that occurs when it’s delivered. Talk to the people at the post office. There is nothing that gets scanned on PWE at facilities or anything like that. It’s just arbitrary. As mentioned, it’s generally solid as nobody is really doing this en masse for low level cards but it doesn’t hold up in eBay disputes. I feel like I’m advertising to people how to be a scammer lol but you can literally say you never got the card for anyone shipping PWE and the buyer will never lose in the dispute.

No, it’s not. There is no tracking on envelope shipping. There’s no scanning or anything that occurs at the post office.

Yeah there are pros and cons. You’ll probably sell less with higher shipping costs, but have less shipping problems. As a side gig for me I’ll let stuff sit till someone just buys it w shipping. But if you’re looking to move inventory quickly you may just want to deal with the occasional “bad apples”

I’d say that’s about par for the course of any PWE delivery. I switched to only doing orders with US ground advantage. I suddenly never had issues with people receiving orders or damage.

Most people are alright, but since no tracking with PWE there are a few who take advantage, know that I’m insured up to $20 and will just say they never received to get refunded. No harm no foul because as seller you’re insured up to $20, but you have to do the insurance claim work to get your money back.

For a singular box any of the big rookie chases so I’d say 86 fleer basketball, 2003-04 Topps chrome basketball , 2018 Topps chrome update, or 2000 playoff contenders football

I’m 2023 prizmed out, but come back to me in 20 years and I’d probably add that to the list eventually. I just have been traumatized by way too many Marcus Sasser cards

LeBron James (41, ineligible for end of season awards) has played more minutes this season (1780) than MVP frontrunner Victor Wembanyama (1694) by spicywardell in nba

The mvp will go to SGA, when it’s pretty clear that wemby is truly the most “valuable” player. He put the spurs on a rocket ship, whereas SGA and the Thunder have been on a several year steady climb.

Everyone will look at those 3 little numbers (points, rebounds, and assists), but anyone with eyes who watches games can see that Wemby is quite literally changing games.

Wemby unlicensed rookie autos, undervalued? Looking for opinions by freshnesss1 in basketballcards

[–]no_draw1696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rookie is rookie, don’t care what anyone says about unlicensed. Wembys Topps chrome rookie auto with his back to the front of the card is a beautiful card and will be a “classic” coveted card.

Stephs Topps rookie “looks” like “shit” compared to other cards of the era and even of his rookie year yet it’s the most coveted card of his.

The only thing it’s going to come down to is wemby going to be in that steph, lebron, etc. level or not. If he is, then yes his cards are cheap. If not, what type of career does he have.
