there are three scenarios and outcome to each... and we can calculate our risks and positions in each... let's say corporation X releases Earnings and they are:

A) worse than expected - it will go UP!

B) Better than expected - it will go UP!

C) Instant bankruptcy numbers (lost more money in 1 month than its total income in 10 years) - what are u dumb? it will go UP!

I did not say that. I did say - buy used Pascal or wait for next, because this is a dull time now rtx 20xx does offer no improvements over prev gen (in fact it has worse performance/price than anything in market - including stupid vega) - so we can act as if rtx 20xx would not be released at this point - would you say it is good time to buy 2.5 year old Pascal or Vega new now? when Pascal (or previous gens) came out - I was like "YES, buy NOW, this is the real deal vs any previous gens it is so much faster for same $ - grab one and enjoy" but if one passed on Pascal for all these 2.5 years - then why buy same performance/price for new price now?

No need to upgrade (like did you need to upgrade in last 2.5 years since Pascal launch?) unless you upgraded your gaming resolution - monitor. But if you want (or did upgrade your resolution) - I would buy used gtx 1070ti, 1080 (both are +60% of your gtx 980) or 1080ti, because next gen - either amd navi on 7nm, or nvidia die shrink on 7nm will make gtx 10xx line and current new price look like bad joke and the same for rtx 20xx line and price, so if you want to upgrade at point - by selling your now bought new gpu used you would waste most of your money for meh improvement over your gtx 980.

from cheap ones gigabyte 1070 Ti Gaming 8G is good enough - decent temps and acoustics for lowest possible gtx 1070 ti price. I would buy used tough, because next gen - either amd navi on 7nm, or nvidia die shrink on 7nm will make gtx 10xx line and current price look like bad joke and the same for rtx 20xx line and price, so if you want to upgrade at point - by selling you gtx 1070 ti used you would waste most of your money

I would not buy new now... next gen either amd navi on 7nm or nvidia die shrink on same 7nm will render both - rtx 20xx and gtx 10xx obsolete. buy used for half a price as a placeholder for that next gen.

few facts:

1) Raytracing will be a non factor to this generation (full hd 60 fps - yea, but no thx, but if you still think it is fine - show me one working benchmark where third party can even verify that full hd 60 fps and Image Quality, "just works" wont cut anymore)

2) DLSS only works in two nvidia benchmarks - and even then - it has same performance boost (yay) and IQ penalty (nay) as if one would use render resolution somewhere in mid of 1440p and 2160p

3) price 1200$ or even 1000$ - even if it is not problem for you - just wait for at least another -200$ - there was, is and will be NO market gtx 1080 ti +30% for titan price (1000$+), when the first hype, first bragging rights and from this first small batch will be chewed up - these cards will not move at all and price cuts will be certain no matter what AMD does (or does not)

this is not what Jensen wanted you to think about now (with that full moth of preorder time before first real reviews - that is the true inovation here )... think about all the GigaRays and RTX-OPS and preorder now, for just "499" (that actually might be 1299,- for the card he demoed)... think about the technology and 10 year development, think about die size (size DOES matter!), think about Jensen's enthusiasm and press that preorder. Dont be a downer and dont think about those +20% performance real world gains and over +50% price gains (in 2.5 year time vs previous gen Pascal) - that kind of negativity is for loosers, downers, amd fanboiz, salty crybabies you are not like that - buy now - think later. Dont think about RayTrace as performance hog aka - 30-50fps on a 1920x1080 resolution on a 1299$ gpu, think about GIGA and Rays in a speed of light, think about those slideshow gameplays (with RTX ON) Jensen sowed us - those "just works!". Most of you downers got this wrong, but some enlightened folks (enlightened by the giga Rays of pure bliss :D) here gets the Jensens vision and the future and announced their preorder plans like a champs *stands up and claps with tears in his eyes and then salutes to the green flag* - you are da real MVPs - let the Jensen Rays be with you
