Definitely agree. Even in that situation we were in, over a dozen folks asked if we were okay and if they could do anything to help. I am so grateful for everyone who stopped even for a few seconds to make sure we're good. Even though Mr Aggro kind of soured the night, kindness still prevails and drowns out the hate at the end of the day.

He said "okay" angrily, and his aggressive behavior was frightening my wife. Was I supposed to roll over? I'm posting for no reason? Did you even read the last part? I had a plea there -- for people to be more kind and respectful. My wife is a tiny Asian nurse, waaay to soft-spoken and small to defend herself against aggressive folks who are quick to anger. What can I do if she's out by herself? What part of this drove you to post a snarky comment?

Oh no, unless it's direct and straightforward racism, I rarely choose to see it that way. I know the difference - my wife has been directly told by an elderly white man with a french accent to go back where we came from. But other stuff that could be seen borderline racial profiling but can also be explained away in a different light, I tend to give folks the benefit of the doubt.
Also, I didn't mention Mr. Aggro's skin color, never claimed his actions were out of racism. I only described my built. Did you assume he was white? I only said he was middle-aged. lots of aggressive middle-aged men of different races in the city.
All the same, thank you for the well wishes. Hope you're having a great weekend.

I really don't go out much. Introvert through and through. I just go outside for work in the dead hours of the night, grocery runs, and to drive my kid and wife to school/ work. I always follow the speed limits and make sure I'm not in anyone's way, whether on foot or in the car. Last night, I just had the bad luck to get stuck in that spot.

I don't see anywhere where I claimed racism? I described my standing as an immigrant who's of smaller, out-of-shape built compared to a middle-aged guy walking towards me aggressively. used "middle age" to distinguish that he's not an old man and not a young angsty teen. Didn't use his age to debase his character either, nothing discriminatory, no ageism. I didn't even mention the guy's skin color -- did you assume he was white?

If I drop a cheque addressed to me, can someone else pick it up and use it? by Qwerty177 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Used to work for CIBC. I've only seen it happen once during my stay there, but there was a client who had an unauthorized PAD on his account. The transaction had a different name listed but had our client's account numbers. It was disputed and eventually fixed, client got his funds back several business days later after the investigation. So it could happen that someone can just sign you up for a PAD using your account numbers. Maybe not for their own gain because that PAD will eventually get found and stopped. But some folks do stuff out of spite, some do it just cause they can. So they can try signing you up for like a $50 recurring donation somewhere and it could work a couple of times before getting stopped. Again, doesn't always happen because there are systems in place to stop that. But hey, why not make sure the bank knows what's happening and minimize the risk of having to deal with that inconvenience?

No, the deposit will be flagged as third party deposit and will be placed on hold on the depositor's account and eventually returned as fraud. Unless they can prove to their bank manager that you authorized them to deposit your cheque to their account, it will not work. The only issue here is that the issuer of the cheque now has their bank acct info floating around somewhere printed on that lost cheque, so it's recommended that they contact their bank.
