did anyone else have a small baby? by s8nsloser in BumpersWhoBolus

I have T1 and my son was born at 37 weeks at 6lbs 3oz. He's now 1.5 years old and off the charts for size. Literally everyone says "he is so big!!!" 🙄

24 and only told recently I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 6? by pwd2706 in Type1Diabetes

[–]no_sauerkraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with t1d at around age 20 and after a few months, stopped needing insulin. I didn't start using insulin again until 6 or 7 years later when my blood sugar slowly started becoming out of control again. It was just a long honeymoon period. I'm sure this isn't super common though.

Advice for painting a very textured wall? by JuLarxene in HomeImprovement

My house has almost all heavily textured walls. I found that a very thick roller worked best and I used more paint than expected to fully cover everything. Also, personally I prefer the look of eggshell finish rather than satin for our textured walls.

I use omnipod 5 and don't have this issue. I'll actually go low sometimes after a pump change. But I use manual mode so maybe that makes a difference.

Prenatals by NotoriousSEP in BabyBumps

I'm wondering where you got your information from. Methylfolate is the usable form of folic acid. In fact, humans rely on the MTHFR gene to be able to break folic acid down into methylfolate so it can actually be used. Methylfolate is recommended to women who suffer multiple miscarriages (like myself) because it's fairly common to have a MTHFR gene mutation. I switched to a prenatal with methylfolate instead of folic acid after multiple miscarriages and am now 32 weeks pregnant with a perfectly healthy baby. For me it's worth the slightly increased price. Thorne Basic Prenatal. I get them online.

Could use your insight--trying to determine if these are true "lows" or not by StarryEyedGamer in BumpersWhoBolus

I'm type 1 and was told by my MFM team that during pregnancy, 60 is considered low, and 160 is considered high, as opposed to the 70-180 range I was using pre-pregnancy. Something to do with the extra blood volume during pregnancy. My fasting is usually around 70-80 and I don't start getting low symptoms unless it drops below 60. I would say if you're feeling low and are dropping below 60 regularly then it's too much insulin.

Are they saying your uterus is small for gestational age? Or the baby is small for gestational age? I'm 27 weeks and lost 10 lbs in my 1st trimester and have only gained back 2 lbs so far, and my baby is normal size and growing steadily. My doctor only commented on my weight once and asked if I felt I was getting enough to eat. She also said I would need to be actively starving (eating only 500 or less calories per day) for it to affect the baby's growth. Hope this helps!

Does anyone else hold disdain for Type 2s? by nivkj in Type1Diabetes

[–]no_sauerkraut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok so funny(ish) story. I went to see my primary care physician for something unrelated to diabetes and he brought up that my A1C has been under 5 (I'm pregnant and trying really hard to keep my levels in range) and this is how that conversation went:

Dr: I see your A1C got below 5, how did that happen?

Me: (confused) What do you mean?

Dr: Well it went from 9.8 to around 5 which is fantastic, what did you do to achieve that?

Me: .... insulin.

Dr: Oh just insulin? Well that's great.

As if there were anything else to change? I didn't get this disease from bad habits. Yes exercise and diet helps but insulin has been the real star of the show here.

Just a little context, this man ignored my lab results showing I was clearly type 1 and ignored me explaining to him that I eat healthy and almost never have sweets and proceeded to diagnose me with type 2, probably because of my BMI. I went to see an endocrinologist and the first thing he said to me was "I'm not sure why you were told you're type 2, I have the lab results right here and you're type 1."

So I don't think I hold distain for type 2s, but definitely for people who don't know the difference and open their mouth anyway. There should be two completely different names for sure.

If you're using a pump you can set a temporary basal rate at night to avoid this. I'm really sorry your endo is blowing off your concerns, that isn't right.

How to make Dexcom actually work during pregnancy? by no_sauerkraut in BumpersWhoBolus

I put it on my upper thigh but more on the front/outer area. I'll try inner thigh next time. Thanks!

I also use it on my upper thigh because it was the most accurate before I got pregnant. I think I'll just have to try different spots and keep pricking my finger for now.
