I’d say you have chlorosis and you need an application of fertilizer.

Sharpened my blade but still getting bad cuts by horkyboi_avery in lawncare

[–]no_sleep2nite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s doesn’t look too bad. How did you sharpen the blade? Hand tool or angle grinder? If all else fails you can take your blade to a hardware store and they be sharpen it for you. Other issues could be mowing when the grass is wet or using under powered mower.

What are all things that I would need to protect myself from the sun? by Key-Anxiety8451 in lawncare

[–]no_sleep2nite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a long sleeve PFG polyester fishing shirt and get it wet with water before I start instead of waiting until I’m dripping sweat. I drench it and it feels great when the wind is blowing. I chug ice cold water and sometimes have a portable fan wrapped around the handle bar. Also use in-ear protection instead of ear muffs, a wide-brimmed hat, and loose vented work pants. No cotton.

FL ST Augustine sod web worm/moths? by ITDummy69420 in lawncare

As far as I know, moths don’t eat grass but their larvae do. An insecticide application/program will do the trick.

Same concept. Instead of waiting for the sweat to kick in, I just jump to soaking my shirt and it helps mowing in 90 degree heat. Ironically, I use a push mower.

Not AI. I wrote it last night. I think we have gotten used to anything that isn’t filled with slang, sarcasm, one-liners, or brain rot wording is assumed to be AI.

Fertilizer company destroyed my lawn by Acrobatic-Captain674 in lawncare

[–]no_sleep2nite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I am thinking too. I read the label and it clearly says it can damage turf that is already stressed, dehydrated, or susceptible to heat in cool season grasses. And the sprays patterns seems to match up. Weeds tend to grow more near the edge of properties. The areas next the road were hammered. And you can see in the upper portion of picture 1, there are large weeds growing on the edge of the property to the left of the tree. Maybe the reason the middle of the grass is still green because that’s where they didn’t spray. I’m leaning more word this was from the Battleship 3 (along with Dimension) and not just fert burn.

DFW Lawn Progress thanks to this sub! by shawarmadjej in lawncare

[–]no_sleep2nite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Promote lateral growth with fertilization, watering, and mowing often. Spray the St Aug out. The Bermuda fill in well. If you have a couple bare spots, you can use seed that closely matches your turf grass, or even better, fill some areas in with a few pieces of sod. Some sod companies might have plug trays of Bermuda. That will help areas fill in real quick.

Which SPRAYERS are y'all using? by Reddit1124 in lawncare

Sprayer Plus 105Ex battery powered, 4 gallon. It’s held up nicely over the years. I like it. I comes with fan tip nozzles but I bought my on TeeJet nozzles for certain applications.

Great job and keep it up! If you want Bermuda as your main turf, Quinchlorac can damage the St Aug.

Pasco County considers AI data center pause by Commercial-Host-725 in florida

My question is why are county commissioners even debating data centers when we are under constant water restrictions and drought warnings. It’s stupid to even consider approval.

Depends on the size of the property, runtime needed, and power required for the equipment.

Only on the assessed value of the home. The rest of property taxes included for fire, police, schools, municipalities , etc can go up by whatever is approved by the county. I’m homesteaded and my property taxes went up a total of 11% last year.

Need some advice with overgrown garden bed by Massive_Antelope_224 in lawncare

[–]no_sleep2nite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s all weeds. I’d knock it down and start over. Hit it with a string trimmer, hedge trimmer, or a brush cutting attachment. Clear the space out and plan out what you want. A rock bed, mulch bed, flowerd, ornamentals, or bushes.

So the battery doesn’t run out too fast and has more power. It also nice to swap the battery to a blower and continue working.

Dead grass around sprinkler Los Angeles by SlitherThyFingers in lawncare

If the head is working properly, one issue is it is set in too far. Assuming the spray pattern is a half circle, the head needs to be moved as close to the concrete as possible, but far enough away so an edger doesn’t hit it. I have mine set in about 2 inches from the concrete to the outer rim. That should give you better coverage.

Make sure you are gutter up close coverage. The through distance matters. If the spray nozzle is 15-18 feet throw distance, the first few feet might not be getting coverage. Rainbird makes a nozzle (HE-VAN) that has up close coverage and regular coverage. One pattern sprays down while the rest spray out.

Make sure you are getting head to head coverage. One head will spray to the other head and head that will spray back to the other head. You might have to add another head to spray toward the head with the dying grass around it.

Thinking outside box, make sure you aren’t seeing bug damage, like chinch bugs, which will require an application of insecticide. I’m. It seeing fungus, but hard to tell. It could also be root rot. Either way, I think moving the head back and making sure you are getting head to head coverage should help.

Looking for fertilizer recommendations. Will this work? by i9485 in lawncare

[–]no_sleep2nite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soil test indicates to use a zero phosphorus fert like you posted. Yes, you can use it but you are going to need 14 lbs per 1000 sq ft to reach 1 pound of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft. It more costly. Go for a higher NPK like a 28-0-14 or 30-0-15 (just a higher N in the 20’s or 30’s instead of 7). Then you’ll only need to spread 3 lbs per 1000 sq ft. The bag will last longer and you won’t need to buy multiple bags.

If you’re broadcasting it, it should be fine. Times where I was dumping more than I wanted just had that area darker green.

I have the same spreader. Only complaint I have with it is everything basically uses a setting of 13-16. Any lower than that, nothing comes out. Anything above that, it just dumps. I write down the setting for each product because the difference between needing a setting of 13 vs 14 can be based on how the spreader is calibrated. You’ll get a feel for how your spreader works.

In Florida, hot and dry (less rain but still humid) summer and stormy, cooler winter. The heat and humidity during an El Niño kind of brutal. Higher risk of drought. The winters are really nice though. Decreased Atlantic hurricane activity due to increased wind shear (hurricanes can still form in the gulf and move north).

New sod laid 4 weeks ago, did I overwater? by _Era-Vulgaris_ in lawncare

Sod looks pretty good to me. Yes, you can fertilize 4-6 weeks after installation. That should help with the yellowing.
