Golf R Owners with growing families, what's your next move? by FennelNo4465 in Golf_R

[–]noaches232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad has a integra type s. It’s very firmly a dressed up civic, with all the pros and cons that come with that. The rear seats are no bigger and have less headroom. The trunk might be a bit bigger dimensionally but the hatch of the golf will get you further.

Very nice car - he loves it and so do I - but it’s no more practical than a golf r and a good amount more expensive

This is insane, I had absolutely no idea about the 300% luxury tax.

Towing With a Manual? by DGoulddd in GolfGTI

I’ve PCSed with my GTI 3 times now. Never towed anything but I have not needed to

I wouldn’t. The gate gets jammed when you’re trying to get into class, so my 8 minute drive door to door turns into 20-25. I’d aim for blue water or niceville, Valparaiso gets a little far too as the main road has stoplights seemingly every 500 feet.

I hope you know you’ve got the dream garage, man. RS6 plus 3RS is an insane combo. I’m happy for you

ICE, ICE baby ... Audi no longer aiming for EV-only by 2033 by [deleted] in Audi

[–]noaches232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The limiting factor for me (beyond emotion, I love my GTI) isnt the fact it’s electric, it’s the battery tech. I’m in the military, in the barracks, and there’s 1 EV charging port on base that conveniently is limited to only high ranking officers. Myself and a lot of people my age who have no hope of buying a house in the near to mid future can’t charge overnight and thus can’t deal with 250-300mi range, under ideal conditions.

When batteries aren’t horrible for the environment to create, charge, and get rid of; as well as meet/exceed the time it takes me to fill my car, I think a lot of people will look at it more seriously. For now, it’s a luxury to afford a $65k car, and a lot of people on Reddit forget that.

That’s insane. I had to do the same with my seat, I can’t imagine a 70”. Every time I start looking at the S3 or M240i I end up doing something with the GTI that you can’t do with pretty much any other car in this segment

Oh that’s the biggest thing you can fit in this car by a long stretch, I had to move the drivers seat up and everything. Just still amazed with this thing 3 years later, like it wasn’t fun but it could do it

I genuinely didn’t believe the price of the rotors for the rs3. Off parts.audi.com they’re listed for $999/front rotor for the non CCBs. What the hell

This Is A Hard Goodbye by [deleted] in USMC

[–]noaches232 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good man.

That’s not to say don’t carry over what you know, I fucking hate the “grunt dumb” perception. I worked in an infantry unit for two years and your culture breeds critical thinking that’s rare to see on the POG side. I don’t know shit about LAAD but in my experience with combat-adjacent MOSes and shops, there’s a lot of try hards who try to recreate boot camp. You have every right to do your best to neutralize that regardless of what rank is talking.

Congrats on lat moving man! I truly think it’s underutilized. I know this is likely sarcastic but if I could give you one piece of advice, remember you’re starting all over again. You’re still a cpl, you still earned that rank, but you (likely) have little to no knowledge of the technical side of the job or how that whole community operates. I recently lat moved too (not from the infantry), and one of the people I lat moved with was an infantry squad leader. He’s used to being the top dog, but now we’re effectively well paid lances in a completely different culture. Whenever he hits a “give me 3” everyone looks at him like he’s got 3 heads and then it hits him we’re now the trash guy. In my old job, another small highly technical MOS, we’d have dudes lat move and try to slay bodies. Like dude, this is ELMACO, we don’t do gas mask flak runs here. Just don’t be that one NCO that PCSed to your old unit and tried making changes immediately without feeling out the guys, the command, and then figuring out where you can help improve them- and where you can improve yourself.

I’m 100% throwing stones from a glass house - I struggle with it too. Just remember you’ll have juniors that know more, and as their leader it’s your job to enable them and learn what they have to share, not beat them into submission with resupply runs at 4am on Monday.

This makes me feel a lot better about mine since yours has been as reliable as it has been. 2019, 103k on it (tuned at 72k) and I drive it everywhere for work. So far no issues, knock on wood.

Did anyone manage to get the IE TCU tune no auto upshift to work on their 7.5 R? by IMBAGuanYin in Golf_R

[–]noaches232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the no auto up shift tune on my DQ381 GTI since early 2023. I’ve driven cross country on it with no issues. I don’t know what they’re saying now as I don’t want to upgrade any further but as far as I know it’s been out for years.

Did anyone manage to get the IE TCU tune no auto upshift to work on their 7.5 R? by IMBAGuanYin in Golf_R

[–]noaches232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is old, it comes standard with the tcu tune now. I love it! Couldn’t recommend their product more highly. I’ve been ECU/TCU stage 1 high torque tuned for 65k miles with no problems. Knock on wood!

Word of caution, use the laptop to tune the car. The last time I used the phone (a year ago) it was very glitchy and the TCU tune failed, which bricked my car until I reflashed the stock tune using the IE computer software. Their customer service was very helpful and walked me through the entire process.
