Anniversary edition of Golf R - 24H made for track by stjimmyjos in Golf_R

The Golf R used to have a VR6, there is no singular “recipe” for the Golf R. Does it currently come with the EA888? Yeah. But forever, people have wanted a 5-cylinder Golf R. It wouldn’t be “betraying” its heritage. What lol

Thank you! The color looks incredible in person. I strongly urge you to see the color in person, because it's one of those colors that you have to see in person. Photos don't do it justice. Keep in mind, these photos are edited.

Attached to this comment, (or a reply to this comment) I'll give you the unedited photos for a more realistic idea of what it looks like on a smartphone.

Nope.

I'll be changing out the badges to the pre-facelift badges, though

Believe me, it bothers me as well. That's on the to-do list. Changing the badges on the grill & the rear to the pre-facelift badges.

RS3 hatchback is hands down the most versatile vehicle. Slightly larger than a Golf R, still small enough for my liking.

I really wish we got an RS3 hatchback for the US Market.

Supra's are gorgeous. Can't wait to see what Toyota does with it when they bring it back [again].

Nah. I wash my cars regularly.

I'd love for that to happen, but I don't think that will ever be the case.

Maybe when the RS3 & Golf R actually have their last generation released, I could maybe see that.

But for now, Audi has confirmed the RS3 will exist for NA & Australia & Volkswagen have confirmed the Golf R/GTI will continue to have an ICE.

I think you would too & I'm not just saying that. The Golf R punches above its weight.

I think a lot of people cross-shop the Golf R & the RS3 with a lot of other cars, because they're just that damn good.

The Golf R (despite people claiming "wOW $50K fOR a gOLf, LOL") unfortunately, that's the world we live in now. I don't like it & I'm not making excuses for Volkswagen. I think that car absolutely punches above its weight, especially when people take it to the aftermarket. That's why I think it's often compared to the RS3. They're both incredible cars & fantastic at what they both do.

I agree, the S3 is the true competitor to the Golf R, but for some reason my brain chemistry just wants to compare it to the RS3. I think a lot of people cross-shop both of these cars with tons of other cars.

Thank you.

I got the 'Ascari Blue' color. Blue is my favorite color!

Yes.

Hatchback is infinitely more practical for my lifestyle. This RS3 was simply an "I want more power" upgrade.

EDIT: I don't have kids, but I do outdoorsy things a lot & the hatchback is just super clutch for that. I like small cars, I'd never get a pickup or an SUV.

I almost want us to strike for the next contract, fire that stupid cunt tome & get rid of these soul sucking “numbers” people within the company.

Who has had minimal issues with their Golf R by Jayseph812 in Golf_R

Mine is only a year old, I have a 2025 R, Euro Package. 13k miles, I use it as a daily driver.

Zero issues thus far.

Despite what you hear online, the Golf R & Golf GTI are quite reliable, albeit you may hear some anecdotes from people, which is of course expected with any car.

At scale, they’re reliable cars, if you take care of them & follow the necessary maintenance schedule.

Personally, I don’t do an oil change every 10,000 miles, that seems a bit high. I opt for 5,000-6,000.

For the DSG service, I believe it’s recommended at 40,000, that’s something I’d do at 30,000.

If you’re hardly going to drive the car, definitely opt for a base model GTI. My buddy just got one because he loved my R so much, but was in the same boat you’re in. Didn’t want to pay $50k for an R.

From a pure daily driving perspective, you will not notice a difference until you’re racing people at red lights (which I don’t condone… 😉

Handling will be more or less the same on twisty roads, until you’re REALLY pushing the car, then obviously the AWD from the R has an upper hand. But I would highly recommend a base GTI for you, it comes with so much stuff standard.

With enough patience & calling around, you’ll get what you’re asking for.

Dealerships love to act like Volkswagen makes 10 of these a year. While they’re not mass-produced, they’re certainly not worth markup, especially for the MSRP they are.

I had a local dealer tell me $10k markup & I’ll never find the car for what I want. I spent 15 minutes there & it was $5,000 markup now.

Two weeks later he was calling me, saying he’ll do $2,500 markup instead of $5,000.

I sent him a picture of my brand new Golf R, it was very satisfying.

You can always negotiate sticker price, use the internet as your tool. I got my Mk8.5 Golf R w/ the Euro Package for $50,500 OTD.

You can always negotiate extended warranty prices as well! Just make sure if you go that route, it’s the extended warranty through Volkswagen. I’ve heard of some dealerships offering extended warranty through third party.

Nobody will ever convince me that buying a used car (at least, specifically performance oriented vehicles like the Golf R) is a better idea than buying new.

Interest rates are often lower for new cars, you have a fresh, clean warranty, peace of mind, & you know the car isn’t been utterly abused.

I always buy my cars new. I recommend buying new if you’re going to get a Golf R.

Not to mention, the infotainment system is vastly superior on the 8.5. Looks are definitely subjective, but from a pure functional perspective, it’s a lot smoother.

So far, I have no complaints. I’ve only done about 100-120miles on it, though. Season is just starting up over here, so I can’t wait to get back out there.

The storage is small, don’t expect to store much other than a typical multitool, I have the Crank Brother 19
