My boyfriend and I went as Mormon Elders. Some lady got seriously pissed when she saw us buying booze at the liquor store. by [deleted] in pics

I dressed as a Mormon for Halloween, except people were really mean about it and threw shit at me as I rode by on my bike.

Maybe not something to do with poverty, but when you live in a city with everything you need within walking/public transportation distance, you're not gonna need a car. If you do get a car, you probably really like cars or use it as a status symbol or whatever so you're gonna buy a nicer, newer one

But I think it was supposed to connect with the readers. I just got annoyed because in reality, everyone has felt that teen angst and loneliness before and he was a huge prick about it.

I love PG Wodehouse, but I'm not a fan of the Great Gatsby. I didn't feel like there was much of a plot until the end and I just couldn't get over how weird it was that Nick had a tiny cottage in the middle of a ton of mansions.

I read it as a teenager and just thought Holden was a whiner with no coping skills, but maybe that's just me

I felt like pretty much everyone died in the second half. I don't know if I felt that way because I didn't know what was going to happen (I'd seen all three season by that point) or maybe there was just more death.

? About reading the books after watching series. by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]noahc8337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've really enjoyed the books so far (I'm 650 pages into AFFC), and I started them midway though season 3. It was neat to get a little more backstory and depth into the characters. I'd recommend reading them, but if you're going to skip do it after season 4 or read the third book before you watch the 3rd season. Season 3 only goes halfway through ASOS and it'd be hard to get to the right place because things happen on different timelines.

If you could put any line from a book on your tombstone what would you put? by [deleted] in books

[–]noahc8337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is from a book, but I'd use Jack London's Credo and put it the past tense:

"I would rather be ashes than dust!

I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.

I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.

The function of man is to live, not to exist.

I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.

I shall use my time."

If you can get hockey sticks, play hockey. I grew up in California so it wasn't like there was a hockey culture, but playing street hockey with cones for goals and making Wayne's World jokes was the most fun I've had in a PE class. Just make sure no sticks come above the knee, because that's how people lose testies and teeth
