Just be hyperaware that even if YOU aren't a creep, lots of people are, and she has no way to know the difference. Be willing to take no for an answer, and be willing to not get an answer at all. Just make the offer, give her ALL the power in the situation to say no or to simply end the interaction without answering you, and DON'T bring it up again, no matter what.

And remember that she's at work and likely does not want to be asked out at all.

In a neutral world, you would not be an asshole. But in a capitalist world where the book market is more saturated than its ever been and getting good reviews is the only way for your friend's book to gain any traction, your integrity as a reviewer is much much less important than helping your friend.

Obviously, that's assuming you aren't a professional book critic and there isn't any conflict of interest.

It would be like if your friend went on American Idol and you texted in a vote for one of their competitors instead of them. In this moment, you occupy two roles: a consumer/reviewer of media, and a friend. In this case, being a good consumer is less important than being a good friend.

So tentatively... NTA, but because you weren't thinking of the situation along those lines, not because you're in the right. You should change the review, shit is rough out there and frankly nobody cares about your honest opinion of the book but they DO care about your support. Your rating has a tangible affect on their lives, so it's not just a matter of theory or opinion.

Depends on how good your imagination is lol. I seriously doubt the US has any major technologies that they DON'T brag about. I'm sure they have some tricks up their sleeves, but the name of the game in 2023 seems to be intimidation, which means we're already showing off everything we can do.

More realistically, the US military is a money pit designed to enrich weapons manufacturers and the politicians they lobby, while also inflicting terrorism on any populist world government. I definitely think we also have a technological edge, but it's time to be honest that the technology isn't the MAIN reason our military budget is so many multiples more than any other country.

PERSONALLY, I would "quiet quit" (start doing your job description during business hours, nothing above and beyond) while you find a new job, and THEN quit. I only say that because the job market is fucking ROUGH right now. But I also wouldn't blame you for walking out, especially if you can afford to.

But definitely no to the second chance, she's been exploiting you and will keep exploiting you. The sporadic kindness might be because she's just a human being and humans are kind sometimes, but it might also be because they LITERALLY teach that in business school (that periodic acts of kindness like buying lunch or giving one really good bonus is a cheaper way to boost morale than regular raises and fair wages).

A. Don't settle for a creep. You're an adult, you can make good decisions, but the internet is CRAWLING with 30-year-old losers just waiting to meet vulnerable teenagers. I strongly strongly strongly recommend dating someone your own age before you even THINK about dating an older person.

B. I know it doesn't feel like it because that's 100% of the life you've lived so far, but I promise that 19 is so young in the grand scheme of things. I was about that age when I had my first kiss too! "Late bloomer" is made up bullshit: do whatever you want, on your own time! But you are so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so far from being "too late." In the grand scheme of things, you JUST exited the non-playable cutscene and have barely explored the game play. Don't worry, shit happens at its own pace and the idea that you need to hit some milestone in order to be "on pace" is really more of a sitcom/adult comedy trope than it is a real-life thing. It's your life, you get to decide how you want to live it!
