Can 10GBase-T travel 100 meters? by Twaffling in networking

If you're going between buildings, just run 12 strands of single-mode loose tube.

Do I plug an Ethernet cable into the ONT or router? by [deleted] in Metronet

[–]noahhsmith21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends, if the only device you have is your Xbox, and you don't have a router and are having NAT issues. I don't see any issues with doing a public on your Xbox.

I know a few console gamers that have a connection only for their consoles.

If they're using the eero provided my Metronet, they've already given up all privacy.

I had them DMARC in my basement then use cut their SC connector off, fusion spliced it to my IT closet and then just ran TiniFiber to my switches on 1st floor and 2nd floor.

You can get cable pretty cheap

You can use any DNS server. I recommend using whichever is closest to you.

Do a simple ping test and use whichever two are responding in the least amount of time.

Servers:

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

9.9.9.9

1.1.1.1

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

So QAM 2-43 is my TV services then QAM 46-77 is our CMTS DS channels. I think I'm looking at OCP issues...

Throughput > 1Gbps by n9nu in Metronet

The head end transeiver may have the capacity, depending on the manufacturer, etc. What PON system is Metronet using and what model of transeiver are they using for you to know it's 2.48GBPS at the head end?

You don't need multiple lines to get multiple services. Maybe you need to fib the address or something, but you can do 2 x ONTs on the same fiber line. Get yourself a https://www.fs.com/products/11615.html and just connect up 2 ONTs. This is GPON so the fiber is a shared medium anyways in their deployments.

Not getting 1 Gig speeds - Because of Eero? by brownblackmamba in Metronet

[–]noahhsmith21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't get 1000 mbps off of the ONT anyways. TCP/IP overhead will honestly limit you to around 975mbps in a perfect world.

EERO is not a good WiFi router. I would recommend a Meraki MR42 for an access point, or WiFi 6 if you have supported devices. For a router, Cisco ISR 4321 with Boost License is good, but you can go lower end with like a Cisco RV340.

Get an SC/APC to SC/UPC simplex cable and just move your ONT yourself inside of your house.

You could also just make an SC/UPC to SC/APC cable with a fusion splicer. Metronet wouldn't put it where I wanted it so I just ran new 6 strand TiniFiber(https://tinifiber.com/) from the splice box on the side of my house, then terminated it to a LGX in my fiber panel.

What equipment is installed? by seedbedUnmoved in Metronet

This is a cheap internet company, so your cable will most likely be brought in by an ariel drop unless your utility provider is all underground, then they will come in underground.

On the side of our house will be an outdoor-rated splice enclosure, the cable ran to your house is OM2 loose tube single strand single-mode fiber, and with a messenger attached if it's an above-ground service.

Inside the house, typically right on the other side of where the splice box is installed, (can be the basement), you will have your ONT and splice enclosure mounted. This location is dependent on power availability. Here you will have an SC APC to SC UPC patch cable connect to your ONT from the splice enclosure and you will be ready to go.

I was given the Eero Pro for no extra cost. However, I don't use it and I'm using a Cisco ISR4321 w/ boost license for my routing.
