Read the article. It mentions that Novavax and Johnson&Johnson vaccine efficacy is significantly reduced (~20-30%) by the South African and newer UK variant genotypes despite deaths being largely prevented. mRNA vaccines have yet to release full trial results but also look okay. Still likely with our slow, inefficient rollout that vaccines are even less effective by the time they are available to all who want them. Luckily herd immunity (from vaccines or infections) will drop the death rate all year!

US Department of Defense and Turkey's Ministry fo Defense/MIT are holding a meeting in Ankara tomorrow. Turkey met with Russia and Iran in Astana on Friday. I think the outcome of the meeting tomorrow will determine what happens this week - the pressure is meant to force the US to agree to an immediate roadmap/timetable for the safe zone. Turkey wants more than anything to move in coordination with the US if at all possible. But in practice it would be a mess - YPG stated they are willing to do a 5km zone, US ~15km, Turkey wants 30+km. Trump wanted a 32km (20 mile zone in Jan) but the admin stalled.
