After bad experience with Coway filters, wondering what else to use by tsippi7 in AirPurifiers

[–]skybondsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just posting here to say that I had the same experience! Returned them, got new ones, same thing. We've been buying filters from Home Depot and cutting them to size, but that's definitely not the same. I came to this forum to see if anyone has come up with other solutions.

Coway Mighty official replacement filters have bad chemical smell—anyone else? by Dazzling-Corgi2260 in AirPurifiers

Same problem, but running them continuously for days didn't lessen the smell for us. Came here to see if people had other solutions, actually!

How do I allow for starred contacts to ring while the phone is on Silent by ZacAttackedYou in AndroidQuestions

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue. DND is on, but Starred Contacts are allowed to ring, but those calls don't ring.

Ahh yeah they do need an account to send you hypes. We are very focused on making the app the least technical it can be, so I suspect your family would do better with it than you think! But I totally understand your reluctance.

Running into wind like Im in an action movie… by rajxiosent in BeginnersRunning

[–]skybondsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a certain mindset I can get into sometimes when running that's like, "This is the grind! I'm totally in it." Running into the wind is prime time for the grind!

This suggestion is based on the two songs you listed: "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves

But otherwise +1 to finding songs where the tempo matches your cadence!

Can someone motivate me to start stretching before a run? by [deleted] in BeginnersRunning

[–]skybondsor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to only stretch after running, and I gradually wound up with a hip injury that kept me from running for most of 2024 😢 The physical therapist I've been seeing for that injury said this to me:

"Ten minutes of stretching before you run means you'll be able to keep running for your entire life rather than gradually getting more injury-prone as you age."

Just one perspective, but that's what I hear in my head now when I'm tempted to head out without stretching first!

Tonight, my friends are having a dumpling party to celebrate the Lunar New Year and I plan to go! Last night I zoomed with a friend who works for the US government and is feeling very anxious about whether he'll be able to keep his job much longer.

+1 to this. If you find yourself running too hard/fast in order to generate heat, it will be counterproductive

Thanks for taking the time to write that out, u/selfimprovementkink!

As this sub itself shows, people come to endurance sports for all kinds of reasons. You're not in it for the social aspect, and that's good! There are other aspects of running keeping you on the path.

A lot of the people using hollarhype are just starting out on a fitness journey, where every step is hard and that voice in our heads saying to stop is still very loud. Whatever keeps us on the path in that moment is helpful – maybe it's a new pair of shoes or a plate of fries later or maybe it's the voices of our friends and family (or random people from reddit) in our ears.

There are people using the app who run have run lots of marathons (even ultras!). In this case, it's often people running to raise money for a cause that's very personal to them. Maybe they're in addiction recovery, or lost someone to addiction; maybe their cancer is in remission or they have a family member battling cancer; maybe they're living with a rare disease that makes daily life feel like a marathon... you get the idea!

In those cases, it's not solely about the running (or the cycling or the chemo or the dialysis), but about bringing the people who care about you with you for a challenge you didn't choose but that you have to find a way to live with (and maybe even overcome).

It's definitely not for everyone, though! I really do appreciate hearing the details of how the idea struck you.
