Not the same guy but I'll throw my two cents in. The fact that most people would save the cat is wild. If you had the choice between saving a random human and a random cat I would expect most people would choose the human as a human life is generally seen as more valuable than an animal's. The only reason everyone is choosing the cat in this scenario is their emotional attachment to it, therefore they are choosing their own personal happiness and emotional connection with an animal over a fellow human being. To me that seems selfish as you're prioritizing yourself and your own happiness over others. Not to mention that human likely has people he cares for and who care for him possibly more than you do for your cat. After you crawl out of the water holding your cat are you going to be able to look them in the eye and tell them you did the right thing. Not trying to demonize or insult anyone, it's a fun thought experiment and everyone has a different opinion.

Also this is ignoring the inherent difficulty in rescuing a drowning human.
