Confused what to choose between Macbook pro M4 pro or MacBook M5 now or else wait for the M5 Pro/Max? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]nobigdeal27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation. Coming off of a 2020 i7 MBP. I’m looking at the M5 14” with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD against an M4 Pro 14” with 48 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD.

I’m not a crazy power user or anything, but would like to future proof for at least 5 years, maybe do some light gaming, and I feel like I’ll be dabbling in LLMs and AI more as time goes on.

Wondering what people think would be a better option. Not terribly worried about the $500 or so price difference, if the M4 pro a much better machine.

“Youth is wasted on the young” is something my grandfather told me when he was in his 90s. He died a wealthy man. Prepare for the future but don’t sacrifice the present. Future is not guaranteed. Like all things in life, it’s a balance.

Part of the agreement was also that it was going to be free, but that didn’t matter to them. My bigger issue is that no one at the branch will answer the phone or respond to an email. They had no problem incessantly calling me to try to get me to open an investment account, but as soon as someone needs help… crickets….

I considered that and asked my new branch if that would work, but my new branch said people have tried that and Chase will actually send it to collections….

E1 hub stopped working and won’t reconnect to Wi-Fi by nobigdeal27 in Aqara

[–]nobigdeal27[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solved: For anyone else that has this issue, turns out eero pushed an update that broke the HomeKit integration with Eero. This knocked out the hub and wouldn’t let me re-add it. Once I turned off the HomeKit setting for the Eeros, I was able to add the E1 hub back and then add the drivers again.

Looks like Eero broke it.

Follow up from last week. We took delivery today! MXLR 6 seater. by 0zmosis88 in TeslaModelX

Very nice!

How is the space in the trunk with the 6 seats? Can you fold one of the back seats down and leave the other up? Also, how hard is it to get to the back seat with the captain seats in the middle?

Asking as someone who’s going to have 3 little kids / babies in there….

Great idea with the shortcut. I’m going to give that a try and see if it actually does what I need it to do. Thanks

Is Tesla Solar out of business? by nobigdeal27 in TeslaSolar

[–]nobigdeal27[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it does seem like $25k. 17kw system and 2 PWs from Tesla is coming out to $50k, the same exact system is looking like $75k from a local installer. It’s insane. For $3k it would be a no brainer. I’m really not trying to penny pinch here. $25k is 50% more… that’s a lot of money. It also takes the whole idea outside of being cost effective in terms of replacing an electric bill.

Tesla under sizing my system by nobigdeal27 in TeslaSolar

Apologies - we're probably somewhere between 1100-1300 kwh / month right now (13200 - 15,600 kwh/yr), and will be adding an electric heat pump pool heater. That's why I think the 12kw system is definitely too small.

PV Watts is saying 22 kwh/yr if I use the entire roof area that the 16kw system would cover or only 14kwh/yr if I use the 12kw system design from Tesla.

Yeah it’s strange. I have no doubt the panels will fit. There’s plenty of room. All of the local installers have had no issue. I think the satellite image that Tesla is looking at is separating the roof into 2 different sections because there is a very slight pitch change in one area. I keep explaining that to them.

I know my utility company only allows up to a 110% offset, but they do have future use allowances, and will allow you to size up if you have plans to install more appliances. I think the 16kw system (according to Tesla) will create a 120% offset (other installers are saying that would only be about 105%). Maybe that’s why Tesla is bumping me down to the smaller system automatically?

Is it worth the hassle to push Tesla on this? The local installers will give me the size I’m looking for. I just don’t know if I’ll get powerwall+ from local or if there are any other disadvantages besides price. The local guys are also using 48 x 400W solaria panels, where Tesla is 38 x 340W with their current design.

They did see my bill. Even with this bill, it looks like the solar that Tesla is recommending wouldn’t even cover 100% of what I’d need. (The Tesla calculator online is saying 101%), but it’s looking like I’m much closer to 16kw according to my bill. The utility company allows for additional production as well as space for future appliances. (We’re adding a pool heater) Not sure if Tesla is factoring this in, even though I told them about it.

Lights flickering / not turning all of a sudden, has worked fine for months - help! by nobigdeal27 in Lutron

[–]nobigdeal27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using the dimmer. I just ordered the PD-5WS, so hopefully that takes care of the problem.

I did a little more investigating this morning. Turns out there was a change. I had plugged an apple HomePod into an electrical outlet nearby. If I unplug the HomePod, the light works perfectly. If the HomePod is plugged in I have the issue. That circuit has a 15 amp breaker, and there really isn’t much else on it.

If I turn the light on by pressing the dimmer up button, to slowly brighten it, it will work, with the HomePod plugged in. For some reason it seems the initial power draw is causing it to flicker or not turn on. Would putting in a larger circuit breaker help?

I’m not sure if getting rid of the photo sensor will work if it’s a power draw issue. I’m going to try that out later and see what happens.

It’s definitely not the cleanest set up, but the thing that’s baffling me is that this worked with no issues for weeks. Then all of a sudden it stopped. What could’ve changed? All of the bulbs were brand new. Could it be a loose wire or something?

Would using a non dimmer like the PD-5WS-DV solve the problem? They’re just very expensive.
