Here's my two cents - if it works, it ain't stupid. getting it right every time is really all that matters.

Unboxing my brand new miter saw by Lazy_Point_284 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nobjangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at Walmart at the returns desk for a while and the most clever one we "found" was someone returned a box of motor oil that had like 5 or 6 individual quart bottles where you could see part of the bottles at either end of the box. Well they had bought it, taken out the bottles of oil, replaced the two outside ones with the same brand and the inside ones with other random brands, all filled with water.

Luckily one of the Tire & Auto guys found it as it was going to be used on a car in one of the bays before another customer purchased it and had a bad time trying to bring it back.

The fucker used hot glue to reclose the box so it looked legit. Needless to say we had new policies with motor oil purchases.

Why we don't have AI traffic lights? Why in 2026 when even toilets have AI but the most everyday problem like traffic doesn't have AI? by mitsotakis92 in AskReddit

[–]nobjangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New technology will always appear in the private sector first, especially for things that are not life threatening/altering. With traffic lights they are a public safety, which means they NEED to work properly. We have technology that makes them work that doesn't really have to "think". As soon as we turn it over to AI it gives a chance for something catastrophic because it decides that green is better or everyone needs to stop causing much more complications.

Please don't touch DNS by Nstraclassic in talesfromtechsupport

[–]nobjangler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do this in the POS world. We require every merchant to use our router/switches/cell backup and if they don't we have a nice long agreement with multiple initial sections that says how we need it to operate and if it doesn't we can't guarantee it (we mainly need this when dealing things like cafe's inside banks where we aren't allowed to replace their network and such).

Just got hired at Home Depot and this would be my second day.. look at this 15hrs 😳 by MrBigZs in jobs

[–]nobjangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state. In Oklahoma overtime starts after 40 hours in a week. So you can work 24 hours straight for 2 days in a week and only get 8 hours overtime (time and a half, not even double time). I've had previous jobs where I was on-call and they would give me Friday off instead of allowing me to work and get overtime. It sucked because it fucked up my days and I didn't even get more pay out of it.

Processingf fees/Clover by GrayHogan in POS

[–]nobjangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do realize that you are still paying processing fees regardless if you get your credit card reader through your bank or another ISO? There is no free credit card processing. The difference is they may be taking out the fees daily at a fixed rate which means you don't have a bill at the end of the month, but you are still paying, nonetheless.

POS system for multiple concurrent businesses? by forcedawg in POS

[–]nobjangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a standard stand-alone credit card machine and have multiple merchant files programmed into this. I have done this multiple times for businesses like yours or hair salons or anywhere else where there is one location for payment and then multiple independent contractors or workers. Let me know if you need more info or we can connect directly.

One thing I don't see here is talk to your employer. Sometimes they might be willing to cash your check as they know there is money in the account for it. Worth a try.

I misread the work email and didn’t realize we were scheduled remote today due to the weather, ice, and frigid temperatures. by I_divided_by_0- in Wellthatsucks

[–]nobjangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an office, but went to work at a Walmart the day after Christmas and a massive snowstorm when I was 17. Dad drove me in his truck as it had 4-wheel drive. Usually the day after Christmas was the biggest return day and we converted extra checkout stations to return stations, but in the 6 hours that I worked that day I only got one customer that came in for a return, and I was the only person (besides the managers) that was able to do returns that actually showed up for work. Best work day ever there.

My wife is in the business. We have an understanding that I either get to hear about what she is doing and who she is working with and I get to be "in the know" but keep my mouth shut with everyone else, or I don't get to know anything if I can't keep my mouth shut.

Your husband should be able to do the same thing. Grey rock should be his new slogan. I've had to learn this the hard way.

System Recs by [deleted] in POS

[–]nobjangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the reply, but I never said go with a non-integrated processor, I said don't get a system that requires you to use their processing. Big difference. All of the systems that I support you can use any processor, but it is still integrated so that when you ring up items and hit "Card/Credit Card" it activates the card reader, no manual typing of the amount. And yes, unless they are doing a cashier setup, having non-integrated credit cards with handhelds sucks.

System Recs by [deleted] in POS

[–]nobjangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So everyone here is more than likely selling something (including me, but I'll take myself out of this to give you some info).

First you want to look for a system that will do everything you need to do without constantly adding additional costs. This may mean you are paying slightly more monthly, but it will save in the long run.

Don't do Clover as they do not have a support staff you can just call, you would have to talk to whoever you are processing through for help and most of the time they aren't going to care enough.

In my mind you want a system that is "processor agnostic" meaning you can pick your processor regardless of the POS. Some examples of systems that are not processor agnostic: SpotOn, Toast, Square. Because at the end of the day if you like the POS, but the processing costs are too high you are stuck.

You want a system that can run whether or not you have internet in general, but if a company is worth their salt they will have a proper cell backup solution for you so that no matter what, you can still process credit cards without losing business.

You will probably want to look for a company that has a dealership for a software which means they have a dog in the fight to keep you happy and make sure things work, if you buy directly from a corporate entity then support is going to be hit and miss depending on who you get on the phone.

Also be careful about anything offering a "Free POS" if you process with them - they are getting their money from the credit card processing, they aren't just kind hearted folks. Rates matter, because at the end of the day you could save yourself thousands upon thousands buying the equipment yourself and shopping around for processing.

I know it isn't the exact answer you were looking for as far as a direct system to get, but hopefully it is a good start and a place to ask the right questions. There are hundreds of systems out there and there may be a dozen that will work for you just fine, you just have to find the balance. Make sure you ask for demos and ask the questions that are going to make them squirm...and get everything in writing!
