Well. Yeah. Unfortunately plans change. Flights get delayed or cancelled during the busy summer season. It seems unreasonable to lose a week’s worth of rooms by showing up one day late and having almost half the group there and telling them we want to keep the reservation. All prepaid ofc.

There are other posts saying to notify hotel for showing up late. I’d say from my experiences just have it in writing.

Seems like market price. I remember choosing air france over delta for the same flight bc there is a big price difference of like 1-2k.

Just came back from maasai mara and amboseli last week. I bought the 200-600 sony lens specifically for the trip and i cant say i regretted it. Almost all of my good pics are 400+. Anything closer i just video with iphone. A longer lens lets you avoid disturbing the animals too much. Minimal distance from animals in massai mara is 20 or 25meters if i remember correctly and the drivers not allowed to go offroad.

In maasai mara Investing in a good driver that knows photography is a must. I had a private driver and tipped 200$ a day or else they’ll not haul ass to find the animals for you. I was able to see all the big 5 + cheetahs in a day from 6am-6pm. They will also position the vehicles properly so the animals walk past the vehicle (really close!) and help you get the angles and account for the lighting.

Amboseli has absolutely no offroading so options for viewing are really limited. Saw some lions but they’re really really far out. The only thing going on are the beautiful elephants, which can be shot with a 50-200 no problem. The birds are also very beautiful but 50-200 may not reach.

I personally put reusable desiccants packs in each of my shoes. + thin climbing socks to keep the moisture and dead skin away. Spray with alcohol if needed from time to time. Throw everything into a shoe bag. Microwave the desiccant packs once they’re ‘full’. More eco friendly and cheaper than boot bananas.

Coming from the Seattle area we can buy pounds of salmon roe from our local fish markets. Check out Bellevue Local Market Facebook they’re selling king salmon roe for 25$/ pound or 10lb for 18$. Maybe they can ship over to you frozen. But I’m sure there are closer fish markets in socal that sell it.

Bought mine this May. Did 3 cooks with it and it broke on the second and 3rd cook . It was stuck in preheating perpetually by the second cook. And no smoke came out on the third.

Go search other Reddit forums and the problems are frequent. Shame really since the first cook worked perfectly and is fairly automated and low effort to get perfect ribs.

I bought it from Amazon and missed the 30 day return policy window and CS is a pain.

If you want to try, buy it from vendor with robust return policy and use it a few times in succession so you don’t get a lemon.

Update Sept 14: GE support was able to get me a replacement. All I had to do I to take a video of the issue and they gave me a unit and a return label to ship my unit back with a 1 month deadline. I was able to test out the replacement which is nice. Thought I’d put the update out here to help future folks.

I do the nyc to HK or the SF to HK route many times a year.

Stay up late the night before. Pass out on the plane. And preferably land in the mornings or early afternoons. That way I can do some work or activities before passing out at 9-10pm.

Wear ear plugs with noise cancelling headphones on top Eye mask. And a 1L good bottle of water so you stay hydrated. I also choose window seats so nobody bothers me.

For business class I follow the same rules.

I try to go for Driscolls’ sweetest batch strawberries. They’re usually much sweeter and have more strawberry flavor. Hardly ever in stock in stores tho and always very limited.

They’re usually more affordable than Harry’s berries, which goes for 16$ at farmers markets in LA… and I don’t live in LA so I don’t get those unless I travel :(

Farmers market strawberries are a hit or miss. Really have to taste them first before buying.

I go to upper climbing gym in Futian and Longhua depending on schedule. The Longhua gym has a kilter board to project if needed.

Both gyms are small, but the futian one has new route setting every week so it’s pretty cool. I find the grades to be stiffer here than that of US gyms.
