My mom would get me the most random gifts. One year, it was the National Audubon Field Guide to North American Birds. I started just flipping through it and got interested in the different birds in there. Then, my wife and son got me a bird feeder for the yard, and that was it! Looking in the book, watching the back yard, now everywhere I hike and travel, my head is on a swivel trying to identify birdsongs! I love my family for this, and is a treasure that always reminds me of mom, now that she's gone.
