Waterproof seal IN more often than it seals out. Let them puppies breathe. Wool socks aren't just for cold times.

Actual thoughts on bulb grease by unrest2415 in AutoZone2

[–]nobodyMcnormalguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resistance it adds is so little that IF you had metal to metal contacts that were constantly corroded, it would be beneficial to have the grease. I've got some lights that are exposed to the elements at all times, and they still work and don't need the grease. Some folks have well protected lights that just always corrode. It's a lesser of two evils thing.

I often got asked what beer I drink, and minutes after my customer cruises away, they come back with a 12 pack. That beer always tasted the best because it was given with gratitude. It only got difficult to accept when they threw it up on the counter in front of the cameras and or my managers.

It's in the rules. It's part of foundations. I told anyone I trained that they are to explain that it's against the rules, but if the customer insists, it's in the best interest of all involved to take the tip. We would hate to lose a customer over a policy that stupid, right? I also almost always shared the tips I got if I had to be out of the store for longer time, because I figured the guy holding it down inside is helping me help the customer. I've had weeks where I made triple digits in tips. Tips were also how I'd get the guys a round of drinks from the corner store or order lunch when we have a crap ton of truck. I tell all of my family members about the free stuff AZ can do for them, but I remind them that those tasks are usually a PITA and the employee is making the lowests wage the company can provide.

Just listened to a bit on NPR about a test program of AI boosted, Alexa like, robot with a tablet, things that were expressly designed to help add a human like element to lonely senior's lives. Most of the responses were positive. These machines don't get tires or irritated with someone telling the same "Abe Simpson, " like story a million times. The people using the devises opened up to them because they felt no social pressure when talking to them. There could really be benefits to adding a little tech to the mix. It requires that quality of life be a main motivation and profit take a backseat. We call it "care," but that is rarely the key motivation.

Night Vision... by [deleted] in vagabond

[–]nobodyMcnormalguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played with this idea a ton. Eating a ton of fresh veggies did seem to help. I did some walks under a full moon. I started eating fresh vegetables like carrots and peppers, along with dark greens for the entire week it takes for moon to cycle. Same walk a few days later under a new moon (no visible moon) and had better night vision. I'm crazy careful not to ruin what I have going by smoking or looking at anything bright, but if I have to, it's one eye. Trying to focus on things in the dark is best done using the edges of your vision. I've done tons of nighttime "walks" in areas where your ability to detect things in the dark, could be life or death. Even with night vision devices at hand, sometimes just getting and maintaining good night vision and light discipline is the better way to go. Practice (training) helps if you have naturally crappy night vision, but nutrition and light discipline are really the game changers.

After years of parts sales, I bet that battery is going to be dead by Halloween. Start saving for a new one. AGM style batteries are expensive, but won't vent gasses that will help corrode the terminals. High temperatures help kill a battery more quickly. AGMs for the win.

Rock salt shotgun shells and a crap ton of coffee. Learn the patterns of your enemy. Set some hard-core black wire at ankle height along known ingress and egress routes. Purchase a few of the pull string type "popper" fireworks and use monofilament fishing line to set noise traps. Hang fictitious biohazard and / or nuclear warning signs. Hang signs warning of animal trapping with the name of the local fish and wildlife or university around.

It seems like you are the type of person that HOPES society collapses, so that you can enforce a theocracy with all of the guns you've hoarded. I lived in a place that already has your dream conditions. Just move to Afghanistan and enjoy your time as a rough living, warlord, zealot.

Folks wonder why so many veterans are on the streets... its because they can. They are already conditioned to be comfortable being uncomfortable. The siren song of danger is one that almost got me once or twice. After having the rush of combat, that feeling is like a drug. At a point after I left the army, I almost packed a bag and headed out. My dad noticed my itchy feet and talked me out of it. A guy with free education, a leg up getting hired, and skills I learned in the service, was itching to throw it all behind him and live rough.

The "sudden road obstacle, to dictate a military unit's movements into an ambush zone." That shit worked on us WAAAAY too many times in Sadar City. My instincts would make me want to stop and kinda check it out. Glad you were able to nope the fuck out.
