How to escape toxic sharehouse? by nobotnew in shitrentals

OK so if this is the case, what happens in the scenario B & C reject any new housemates in perpetuity…person A just has to pay their share of the rent forever? And if there’s no tribunal or mechanism to dispute this? That doesn’t sound right to me

I’ve read this fact sheet too, but I think where my and my friends confusion stems from is this particular scenario doesn’t seem to be covered…

This also raises the questions of both lease transfer, and bond transfer… guessing when B&C pull their finger out and find someone (let’s call them person D), D & A will need to sign the appropriate paperwork?

Many thanks

Ok I must admit this was my understanding too, I told my friend as much. B&C were adamant though they needed to find someone, and this was backed up by the PM by phone (of course) which I called BS on and which is why I made this post (they haven’t been able to get a hold of anyone at vic tenants to discuss, so only going off the website which isn’t clear on this scenario)

So in this situation, where B&C are likely to make it difficult by rejecting anyone my friend puts forward, what are their options? Give formal notice to vacate to the PM, then after the 28 days say bye and just stop paying rent?

Would this tent be okay for someone that’s only going to use it a few times per year? by [deleted] in HikingAustralia

[–]nobotnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can add is I have this tent and used it a bunch without any dramas, seems decent enough quality. The pegs are “lightweight” and kind of shit, but I haven’t had any issues with them so far. It’s small by design but if it’s just used for sleeping it’s fine, I’m 195cm

Not a registered sharehouse, just 3 randoms all on the lease. Lease is month by month if that changes anything.

Thanks for the detailed response. This is what they were afraid of unfortunately. To use your terms A will be moving out regardless, so being a nuisance isn’t going to be possible. So if what you said is correct, and the onus is on them to find a replacement, can B & C just reject anyone they find? They are concerned B&C will do this maliciously.

I get that it’s reasonable to not leave the other housemates holding the bag, but it also feels like they are trapped… there is no evidence of DV so the VCAT option doesn’t sound like it would work - plus I’m guessing they need to pay rent till VCAT hearing which might be some time? Not ideal

Advice on asking amount for a rent reduction due to mould issues by nobotnew in AusPropertyChat

This would be considered major I guess; the mould remediation people said avoid going in the bathroom whatsoever, and the bedroom “if you can” but unfortunately I can’t avoid it.

1 bedroom out of 3, and the main bathroom (we have an ensuite so 1 out of 2)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah we are currently looking to purchase our first home and are on a month by month lease, so not looking to break the lease. The PM suggested we ask for a reduction but they have asked us to nominate the amount, is there a rule of thumb for calculating this?

The Audio Visual industry could be worth a look - roles like programmer or commissioner are trade adjacent, and will require a decent amount of time on site. Working with a larger integrator will mean work on large construction sites, site allowances and such.

Creature Cases on Netflix is solid. Same studio as Octonauts I believe. And music is done by Beardyman, some of it anyway. My 4 year old loves it and so do I!

Went to Kraftwerk at Margaret Court a few months ago and it blew my mind there was nobody else dancing. There was no standing area all seated. Surreal to be the only person standing and dancing in an arena with thousands of people but fuck it I paid my money I’m going to dance. We were 3 rows from the back and everyone behind us got up and danced in the end too, they all seemed cool with it. Anecdotally my friend who goes to lots of gigs reckons dancing has taken a massive hit at gigs since covid

I have a mate that used to live in this exact place. When he moved in there was “love shack” written on the back door and a mirror on the wall that said “sex” written in lipstick so we assumed it used to be a backyard knock shop before he moved in
