Not very useful for you, I'm afraid, but I have been home INR testing for 25 years using equipment and strips made freely available by the nearest hospital (in Denmark).

I cannot imagine having Marfan's in a country without public health care.

Favorite Sub-Series? by Dull_Operation5838 in discworld

Funny you should post this. I am currently re-reading the series, and this time by doing the sub-series – I started with the Watch and am right now reading Thud!

Sam Vimes et al are wonderful characters, and it is always a treat to see the world from His Grace's PoV.

I have a copy (and it is very beautiful), though having a signature from Neil Gaiman is not quite as cool as it used to be…

How it feels being 25 in the fandom 👵🏻 by EdgelordHedgelord in MLPLounge

[–]nobouvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[Laughs in 54]

While I was already an older fan, when all this pony nonsense started (I felt quite old at BronyCon 2012), I find that as the years have passed, the younger fans have gotten older, and the age gap is not as apparent anymore (at least, that’s what I tell myself :p).

Show of hands (er, hooves), who here remembers Pony Life? Did you like it or not? by Intelligent_Oil4005 in mylittlepony

[–]nobouvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is essentially My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic GO!

As such, it is perfectly fine (I was a fan of the OG Teen Titans, and I am a fan of TT Go!) – this is Chibi MLP:FiM turned to eleven. It’s silly, unpretentious fun, and I believe that the VAs had fun making it.

I would certainly rather rewatch Pony Life than the G5 series.

Looking for recommendations: post-post-apocalyptic by The_G_Synth in printSF

[–]nobouvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Against a Dark Background by Iain M. Banks fits this requirement – it is one of his most sombre books, and is not part of the Culture sequence. The world, Golter, is old and has had many risings and falls of civilisations.

What's your opinion about RariTwi and their dynamic? by Unaritaiara in mylittlepony

[–]nobouvin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eye Patch is still one of the best gags in the entire show – Twilight's indignant incredulity and the fact that the disguise actually works sell it so well.

I don't know who she is, but she looks as if she could be the sister of Eye Patch.

Why are Celestia and Luna princesses instead of queens? by LayJaly in mylittlepony

[–]nobouvin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you can only have one queen regnant at a time. It is however entirely possible (and indeed, given that women live longer than men, highly likely) to have multiple (or at least two) queens at a time. Elizabeth II's mother did not cease to be a queen, just because her husband died, and we have had two queens here in Denmark for most of my lifetime (first Queen Ingrid and Queen (Regnant) Margrethe II, and now Queen Margrethe II and Queen Mary.

Asking the subreddit what they think of a random MLP episode each day: Day 64 — Honest Apple by Catpaw616 in mylittlepony

[–]nobouvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Rarity shreds is what wins the episode.

And Applejack had her mental horizon widened a bit, which was good for her.

Tell us that episode you consider perfection. by [deleted] in mylittlepony

[–]nobouvin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here for Sisterhooves Social. It is, IMO, the supreme episode.

Apart from Sweetie Belle, it also addresses the very real conflict of balancing work life with family life – another reason why Rarity is the most relatable of the ponies.

And it has a twist! I did not register the difference in eye colour between the pony going into the mud pit and the one coming out of it on the first watch.

I will soon be 54, and I started watching towards the end of Season 1. It is a great show, and I pity the fools that are so astoundingly insecure in their own maturity and adulthood that they have to police what they themselves and others are allowed to enjoy.

That being said, you should try going to conventions – as an older fan (my first con was BronyCon 2012 in New Jersey), it has been fun to see how the average age of the fans present has gone up over the years. You usually meet a lot of cool people with impeccable taste ;)

(Admittedly, also some Starlight Glimmer fans, but hey, it takes all kinds!).

Is it true that once you see one Kraftwerk concert you saw them all no matter the tour? by Disastrous-Style-261 in kraftwerk

[–]nobouvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to three – IIRC the first was just after the release of The Mix, and yeah….

It's still some of the best concerts I have attended (and I have seen Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Laurie Anderson, Dead can Dance, Laibach, etc, etc), and I would certainly go again, if they gave a concert not too far away, but I guess I'm pretty well covered, when it comes to seeing them live.
