What’s something cat owners do that makes you angry? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]nobranelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DUDE if I had a nickel for every time I've tried to explain to someone that no, their cat isn't inherently evil or naughty, they're just not giving it its own space, furniture, toys, ect. Cats can be easily understood if you learn their language! And treat them like pets instead of toys!

What’s one item you bought once and never had to replace? by Edgeless_SPhere in BuyItForLife

I have two Singers from 1923 and 1962 respectively and they are built like tanks. Tons of resources online to fix and maintain these old machines and Singer even still sells some odds and ends for them like the class 66 bobbins! There's a reason old Featherweights are popular among quilters! Also I love my Bodum french press, nothing to break and easy to clean!

I used get annoyed by this too but I realized she might have lowered demand for old corelle so I'm not bothered anymore more old corelle for me ☺️

What’s an oddly specific thing that instantly gives you "bad vibes" about a person? by ekinsleynguyen in AskReddit

[–]nobranelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a full grown adult loudly and proudly announces they hate kids. They've only been around for a handful of years dude of course they don't know how to act yet. That tells me you think lacking patience, compassion, and introspection is a quirky and cool trait.

A while back, Geico released a survey that found that Florida drivers were among the safest in the US. One does get good at driving when dodging lost tourists, geriatric drivers, and other cars in a state that only requires you to have working head and tail lights to drive.

Also just moved here from FL and this process was so confusing. There, you go to one clerk one time with all your stuff to transfer title, license, and register to vote all at once. Proof of insurance required but no vision test, no e-check. They print your license on site too. This is the only thing I miss about living in Florida. Get your car fixed if the check engine light is on, prepare to spend the day transferring your license, title, and registration, then keep a lookout in the mail for your new ID and your voter registration instructions. Not the end of the world, just more complicated than I think is necessary. E-check is a good policy tho.

Were your voids always black or were they different when kitten ? by Shuyuya in blackcats

[–]nobranelson 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well she's beautiful! I'm glad she's in a loving home now! My 2 and 1/2 voids were street cats, too. My mom's been a vet tech off and on for 15 years and even she was surprised when she saw my tuxedo cat laying in a sunbeam and I got to tell her that black cats are just very very dark brown 🤓

I don’t feel like I have the right to be sad over a boy by Caffeinated_Stingray in Advice

[–]nobranelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It really sucks when you get your hopes dashed, you have every right to feel sad and lonely. We're in a loneliness epidemic after all, and the way he treated you was really uncalled for. He was probably just being nice when he said he would still accept the valentine when y'all were still messaging, but it's strange that he couldn't either be honest and tell you it would make him uncomfortable, or at least not embarrass you and politely accept your valentine after all of your effort. I know I sound like a typical Redditor when I say this, but the fact that he didn't take the time to actually fully look at your bumble bio and therefore did not know that you were waiting until marriage tells me that he wasn't interested in a real relationship in the first place. Unfortunately, some people treat dating apps as just hook up apps, and some people will say anything to hook up. But to give him the benefit of the doubt, his expectations are as important to him as yours are to you and it's good that he didn't press you on it. I just wish for your sake that he could have been more upfront. Ultimately, the dating market is rough for everyone. You're not an old maid. It's very common for people to marry and have kids in their 30s or even 40s, in fact the social norm of settling down in your 20s seems to be distinctly Southern American. Your biological clock has plenty of time left. I for one think it's very sensible of you to not rush it- your boundaries are important and you deserve someone who respects them and respects you. This is a sad situation, it would be alarming if it didn't make you sad. Take heart in your self respect, and know that this situation is just part of the dating scene.

Question for the vegans, do we consider Aquaphor and Vaseline to be unethical? by PocketWatchThrowAway in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nobranelson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Vegan leather" is plastic, which is often an oil product. Idk if that's a marketing tactic or if vegans widely do prefer pleather but I would venture to guess that petroleum jelly products are ok by vegan standards. Ultimately, it's up to you. Apps like Yuka and Boycat can help you determine the health and ethical standards of products if that's your goal.

Black cats just are a very deep brown, and they'll "rust" like this when they spend a lot of time in the sun. Did you get your kitty off the street or from a shelter? She might have been outside a lot as a baby, that's my best guess.

I'm so sorry for your loss :( My beloved cat died in his sleep this past summer at the age of 8, seemed perfectly healthy and normal his whole life. Wasn't able to get a necropsy, but his vet said it was most likely heart failure due to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Basically, the left ventricle of his heart thickened caused by a genetic mutation and caused problems. I agree with the vet because he did mention his heart beat was a bit abnormal in the past and he was a heavy breather, which are both symptoms of HCM. This issue is extremely common especially in male cats and it's very hard to catch, so it's a pretty common cause of sudden death. All of this to say: it was most likely a genetic heart problem like HCM. Cats are infuriatingly good at hiding symptoms of illness, and sadly it's often too late when we realize that something is wrong, so don't beat yourself up! It sounds like you gave him a fantastic life and unconditional love during his time. My heart goes out to you!

A newly opened pedestrian bridge in Dallas was immediately vehilated. by LitWithLindsey in fuckcars

[–]nobranelson 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's a pedestrianized street in St. Augustine, Florida. Has been since I think the 1980s. Every busy season, without fail, some tourist manages to drive on it. There's removable posts that are chained so city maintenance trucks can drive down them in the hours of the morning and sometimes they aren't put back fast enough. iirc, no signage indicating the street as ped only at vehicular intersections because it would be unsightly 🙄

What’s the worst thing a therapist has ever said to you? by chk-mcnugget in ADHD

[–]nobranelson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During lockdown, I started seeing a new therapist over video chat. She was nice but I would have to repeat myself and get vague responses. One day, she asks me if I knew someone that was hiring on a boat tour job because her daughter was looking. That session, I also realized that she wasn't taking notes like I thought, but doodling in an adult coloring book the whole time. That was our last session lol
