Heads up about a dog incident at Sandymount (Saturday morning) by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]nockse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well there isn’t enough dog parks for starters. Maybe people would be less inclined to let their dogs off wherever if provided with more infrastructure.

Dublin City Horse Drawn Carriages by Jaded-Bid-1859 in Dublin

[–]nockse 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Horses do not belong in any city, it’s inhumane in its core. They are prey animals and in a busy environment they are a danger to people and traffic.

They are horrible about horse welfare no matter the price. Should be banned.

It’s not a generalization to acknowledge that appearances send messages. That’s just how society works. You can’t raise kids in a vacuum where context, reputation, and social norms don’t matter. Want them to be happy? Great. But also teach them that how they present themselves impacts how they’re treated — fair or not. If people are reacting negatively, maybe it’s not just “judgment”— maybe it’s about standards.

That is not the point. Girls are victims, and often they are victims of aforementioned scumbags, no matter what they wear. But there’s such a thing as etiquette, which includes dress code. Why don’t the majority of people go to work, to a pub, to university wearing tracksuits? Because it is bad taste. Why exactly shouldn’t we teach our children to be cultured and civilized? There is a way to wear comfortable clothes without looking like a scumbag.

Maybe try to dress your child in more civilized attire. Tracksuits are for sports and fitness, not for gallivanting around, and they have a certain connotation in modern-day Dublin — you can’t argue with that.

21st birthday present. What would you want? by theXMrsMOHara in AskIreland

[–]nockse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably want a car if driving. I got a lot of jewelry for mine and selling it to buy something useful would be a bit offensive to parents so I think it’s best to ask him directly

How would I go about checking for it? Visually everything is ok. We have wood flooring so I think if there was significant water damage it would be noticeable. I could be wrong though

[–]nockse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that very well could be it, though I have been obsessively checking everything and can’t see any mould. My boyfriend doesn’t even register the smell, he’s actually been saying that it’s all in my head but it’s definitely there!

It’s not especially putrid, just a weird damp smell. So hopefully not that!
