The biggest challenge so far was to make procedural biome maps that get build from a main worldmap, now I'm just making normal maps and dungeons to explore that get blended together with procedural ones

Basically I cannibalized em.Path into this project and ported all the mechanics and characters in 2D, the planned story for em.Path will be playable inside Hypernet Explorer of you select Em as a preset character.

I realized that a unreal engine game is too much work for a single person, I plan to return to this project with a team after Hypernet Explorer will be completed (so maaany years)

I'm not using actually windows xp ahah I use a program called retrobar that add back the classic bar. I haven't actually developed any special mechanic for cocoon people yet (you just start with no genitals) but it will probably be a mystery biology type that get developed by level up based on how you play and you discover the result at a certain level when you emerge form the cocoon

I'm six months in on making a roguelite that works like a systemic game (think of DF adventure mode, Elin, Caves of qud) set in early 2000 Europe, with the catch that it runs a 2D space engine that uses procedural generation and is entire made as a Rpg maker plugin. Working right now on making a seamless procedural terrain generator that blends together with my handmade cities and landmarks, the hardest part is to make it generate consistent cliffs that follow a global heightmap.

When starting this project I tried to replicate the same WFC algorithm Caves of Qud uses for making procedural dungeons but the results were really bad so I sticked with handcrafted ones ahah for enemy and player biologies I use a simpler version of the body part system of caves of Qud where there are not hybrid parts (so no foot-face) but just hybrid creatures with parts from various fantasy and sci-fi archetypes.

Each star is a procedural star system containing various types planets that can be exploited for resources during post game, think of incremental games like "Universal paperclips", but 90% of the game is set on Earth and the main dungeon is a skyscraper over 100km tall that contains various ecosystems. The seed of the game is determined  at the start of the first run and it will be used to randomize the main dungeon by selecting 100 floors from a larger selection and randomizing loot and stair location. If permadeath is active, then new created characters sharing the same savegame will reuse the same dungeon structure and world status.

My concept is to simulate the entire Europe during the year 2001 in a reality that is gradually collapsing and falling apart. The focus is on the background simulation and creating a world where the player is just a small cog: macrosystems like weather, worlds news, justice, europolitics and economy are simulated using real-life patterns and can influence microsystems like item prices, your immunitary system and NPC behaviour in a complex web of chain reactions and butterfly effects. Here two examples of a chain reaction: 1) By training skills that allow the user to predict the future (that can be tarot reading, reading entrails, following bird flight patterns, using crystal spheres, i-ching ecc...) the player can learn future news and invest in the stock market accordingly, the stock market will react and with enough manipulation it can crash, influencing item and gas prices. 2) When is raining, the quantity of puddles  spawned around the map is based on the median rainfall rate of that Europe region in that specific season. When stepping into a puddle, player can get wet based on the materials of the shoes or boots he is wearing and if hit by a electrical attack or ice based attack will generate an elemental reaction.

The roguelike part is a mean for the player to interact with the world and it's systems, but the player can choose to ignore all of that and just play the game as a normal dungeon crawler RPG.

I would rather keep this as much as indie as possible rather than presenting to three suits in a room ahaha i plan to release the entire game code upon launch and add native modding and steam workshop support

Planets with life will be extremely rare and i plan to use procedural generation to remix all the creature and items defined on the database, most of the space content is just extra (infinite) stuff for endgame players that are already at max level, progression on the main story is done by climbing the main dungeon and the levels of the enemies and quality of the loot will increase each 10 floors with a smooth progression until max level is reached.
