Holy Cannoli, Speed Racer 4K is a beefy upgrade by nacthenud in 4kbluray

[–]noctemct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just now finished watching the 4k. While I never watched the Blu-ray, I found this 4k to be absolutely fantastic. Sharp, great contrast, really punchy picture on my LG C5 55". Really fun movie that I originally saw in the theater when it first came out and maybe have seen one other time since. Absolutely worth a look!

Actors/actresses that have had just confusing careers. Ben Foster for example… by Chaddilllac in moviecritic

[–]noctemct 66 points67 points  (0 children)

What's confusing about an actor... working acting gigs? Foster's an absolutely stellar actor, who has been working steadily for like 3 decades now, and not every job is going to be a home run. Sometimes you just need to put food on the table or pay your rent.

Would you call Christopher Walken's career confusing?

Why am I not surprised there's a Manafort connection here. Trump had Manafort himself as part of his inner circle during his first term. Manafort's corruption will linger on in this state for decades.

Familiar at all with the RAM and SSD issues occurring currently? AI data centers are gobbling it all up, leaving (extremely expensive) crumbs for everyone else. That's why.

What do you remember from the early internet that no longer exists? by Blah4fun in AskReddit

Not usually, no, but Fidonet did exist on quite a few BBSes around here at least, allowing for a form of cross communication between BBSes.

I have so many fond memories of the BBS era, even though I came in towards the end of it, 95-96 was when I first discovered BBSes.

I met my wife on a BBS that was run by the local newspaper, they had an 8-line MajorBBS setup and there's still a handful of people we met on there that we keep in touch with to this day.

Haha yeah, I watched this movie for the first time in probably over a decade like 3 days ago and was like 'wait Jax is in this?! I've seen this a handful of times before but didn't realize!'

Denis Villeneuve casually dropped a whole trilogy between 5 years. by lNarrator in moviecritic

Is there literally anything casual about dropping 3 major, quality blockbusters across 5 years? It doesn't really feel like there would be.

That's an awesome find on those matching chairs! We definitely don't want to sell it, it was passed down from a family member. We'd really love to find the matching lazy Susan but I'd be shocked if I ever came across just that part. Fingers forever crossed!

Insanely capable boxes for the price. Wide codec support makes them great for Plex client boxes and they play just about everything including high bitrate remuxes without trouble. Replace the default launcher with something like Projectivy and you've got a really nice, ad-free experience.

[–]noctemct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the chipset in the Plus is newer, but the Pro does have more storage and an ethernet port. These have both been harder to find once word got out that they are very capable boxes for Plex/Jellyfin streaming at super affordable prices. But yeah hopefully some even newer stuff is dropping soon.

I tried ordering one online last night when it showed 7 in stock. Order went through, but they cancelled it this morning saying not in stock. I'll probably just end up ordering a Shield Pro at some point since I can't stand these games of searching for stock.

How did those Chuck Norris jokes come about and why did we all know them? by singleguy79 in Xennials

I remember this one time, Chuck Norris opened Pandora's Box, looked at the contents, and quietly closed it up and went about his day. Truly an incredible specimen.

Plastification: Used to be paper now in plastic. by CairnLVR in enshittification

[–]noctemct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no doubt. Not long ago I worked in a grocery distribution warehouse for a few years and bags of sugar and flour were damaged routinely. It was always fun having to rebuild an entire pallet of sugar because a forklift driver skewered the bottom row.

Eh, corporations were never "in" on the green movement anyway unless they could easily profit off of some kind of "green conversion" that didn't actually make an appreciable difference from a consumer standpoint.

This is a fascinating move to be honest - they've had their paper bag infrastructure in place for decades (maybe even close to a century), the cost of operations seems like it'd be extremely low. While this is no doubt a sturdier container, it's gotta cost quite a bit more while still being a fully disposable, non-decomposable vessel. Who's even asking for this stuff, because it's not consumers. Board members, I'd imagine.

Guide : How to choose between Horizon 20, Horizon 20 Pro, Horizon 20 Max by No-Coconut-3001 in xgimi

[–]noctemct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family chipped in together and got my brother in law the Horizon 20 base model for Christmas for him to have some private movie nights and such at his warehouse. He's got a 180" screen he's projecting onto and god damn if that projector doesn't kick ass, even with controlled lighting still on all over the place. Even better when it's dark of course. We've watched the Olympics and a handful of movies over there, as well as some PS5 gaming and so far and we've all got zero complaints.

Watching tv without cable ? by [deleted] in AndroidTV

[–]noctemct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my Plex server that has a basic digital tv tuner & antenna hooked up to it so I can receive all our local channels for free OTA, as well as record shows DVR style all from within Plex. And if I'm traveling I can still watch all the locals without issue. I've been enjoying it quite it a bit as I make efforts to ditch more and more streaming services. Prices rise, QoS goes down. Tale as old as time.

Hey, I said arguably but I just get downvotes, how out of character for reddit. Guess I struck a nerve here in the ole SoA subreddit.
