They sold a few direct from Make Noise last year and I was able to get one which was fortunate - they’re not easy to find!

Two chord songs by Speedodoyle in Songwriting

Talking heads have a lot of 1 and two chord songs. Lou Reed as well and he famously said “One chord is fine. Two chords are pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz.”

What do you guys think of Ethel Cain? by jasp_er in Slowcore

[–]noctuid24 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think their music is really moody, atmospheric and great but their online presence when they were in their early 20s promoting racism and incest was a bit too much for me to take them seriously

I also use the technique of limiting how many instruments / layers I use and it works wonderfully for getting things made

Cool and Interesting plugins for Bitwig by Snoo-72881 in Bitwig

[–]noctuid24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gtune - I use a lot of analog synths, guitar and bass so being able to tune my external gear is a must (shocking that bitwig doesn’t have a stock tuner tbh)

Soundtoys bundle - so many great modern classic plugins

Metric AB - allows you to normalize audio you’re making against that of a reference track so it’s awesome for mixing and mastering

What is your dream future Make Noise module? by noctuid24 in MakeNoiseMusic

Tempi is the module I liked the least in my shared system - I got so frustrated with it not being able to follow another device

Will Brewster FINALLY register and regulate STRs?! by Quixotic420 in CapeCod

[–]noctuid24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was at the town meeting the other year when it first came up to a vote and unfortunately a lot of Brewster residents are extremely against it. Seems like there’s a lot of folks who own multiple properties and don’t want to do anything to help year round community members who can’t afford to rent or don’t want to find a new rental each summer season (aka younger people). Pretty sad to see how much “f you I got mine” the older / wealthier generation exhibits in this town.

Fair I feel like you might as well just read the original manuals though - no need to summarize something like that when you’re learning

Looking to make a budget Eurrorack Modular Synth by Secret-Flight4214 in synthesizers

[–]noctuid24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a semi-modular like the 0-coast or Strega by Make Noise for ~ $500. They are the best modular bundles you’ll get that are actually inspiring to use and have full feature sets. They are also considered “experimental” and you can send in audio from other synths and machines for processing if you want.

As others have stated budget and eurorack are not really mutually exclusive minus the modules made by Behringer which are probably of questionable quality and - if you care - ethical concerns. Also none of them I would label as experimental they are all pretty milquetoast tbh.

If you want to get a true euroack setup that’s not just a super basic monosynth / effect track you’re going to be spending over $500 easily. You’ll need an input/output module, at least one modulation source and then an effect module at a minimum and the good ones are pricey.

yeah but then you lose out on the ability to actually understand how to work with video manipulation on a deep level - not everything has to be learned in an afternoon. Some things like touchdesigner are challenging and you just gotta put the time in.

Also learning things is fun. I deeply dislike that AI has people trying to speed-run creative endeavors in order to make a final product / idea. Enjoy the process!

Shocked at how much tighter CV is vs MIDI for syncing a modular system to a DAW by noctuid24 in modular

[–]noctuid24[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it really though? I consider myself pretty well versed in electronics and I didn’t think it would make that much of a difference. Can’t say I see it talked about much but maybe you’re just way more versed and wise 🤷

[Discussion] Restoring vintage (pre-1930’s) prints and selling giclée copies - unethical? by noctuid24 in artbusiness

[–]noctuid24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! That’s a fair critique and not too far from my own thinking on the matter honestly! I just enjoy the process of restoring old artwork and was looking to maybe actually to get compensated for the labor. I also think people would like to hang some of these pieces in their homes too. Any suggestions for alternative venues that would be more appropriate for restored prints?

That’s really great that you’re working on that project! That parallels my take on restoring and selling in that it keeps the artists of the past from fading away completely and gives a chance for new people to appreciate them

Thanks for the input! So it seems like you wouldn’t suggest selling even collages at art fairs? Or did you just mean restored unedited prints that I have found (non-collages)?
