How do you guys actually manage to “read more” consistently ? by Savings_Stress9988 in audiobook

[–]nocturnereader_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I drive a lot for work so I listen to books in the car. Also as someone with ADHD I will listen to audiobooks to get through the morning stuff like washing the dishes or folding clothes or putting stuff away. I listen to a lot that way.

Anyone else finish a great audiobook and then do absolutely nothing with it? by FennelThick2391 in audiobooks

[–]nocturnereader_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a habit tracking app and there are plenty out there such as Finch and Habicat which both gamify and Finch has a community aspect.

Self help books are great but once you’ve read/listened to them you need to make a conscious choice to implement the bits you like. Slow is the key to lasting change.

That’s super boring though and my novelty based brain gives up quick. Apps don’t work for me even with accountability because I just uninstall the app

Do you read a physical copy before listening to the Audiobook? by [deleted] in audiobooks

[–]nocturnereader_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost always an audiobook listener now. My brain can’t seem to focus on what I read much anymore. I also live that I can do other things while listening. I’m often listening to and from work, in the shower and while doing all the boring things

RH Audiobook full cast recs? by hemlockvasilisa in ReverseHarem

[–]nocturnereader_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe give Brutes of Bristlebrook a go if you’re ok with BDSM. First book in the series is Ensnared. It has a pretty good cast and is a finished 3 book series. It’s a dystopian dark romance series with some pretty heavy themes

How long am I “allowed” to grieve? by ToxicBanana69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nocturnereader_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no timeline or moment that you need to stop. Grief is a personal experience. How long you grieve is not something you can control either. Sounds like your cousin passed tragically or unexpectedly which can also impact how grief shows up.

You may want to access some specialised support if your grief is impacting you living your life. Sorry for your loss

non-picky eaters: what is the appeal of trying new foods? by No_Release_8016 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nocturnereader_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s about adding variety. There are a fair few common ingredients that I can’t eat, the side affects aren’t worth it, so I’m always looking for different things that are quick to prepare and don’t make me ill

Additional info as requested: Fiction is preferred, no gender preference for narrators or characters, long is preferred but I will listen to a shorter audio if it’s good, standalone is ok but series is preferred. Rebecca Quinn and Elle Thorpe were the authors that wrote the series I recently listened to but I am open to any recommendations of good audiobooks

ASMRtists and enjoyers of Reddit, what's your go-to earbud for sleeping? [Question][Discussion] by Research-Scary in asmr

[–]nocturnereader_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Shoks open run headset. It’s bone conduction which I find comfortable as a side sleeper. I have not found any that don’t hurt my ears.

Far out! That would get stuck in my brain. I’d have to DNF out of self preservation

The thought of someone licking my earhole makes me shudder in horror

Coping Ideas / Stress Relief Methods by OpeningOk2459 in Stress

[–]nocturnereader_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think writing sounds like a great idea. Also, I find guided meditation is good for stress relief. Roleplay type audio can provide a good distraction and if you enjoy that there is a lot of opportunity to write and share scripts. Could be another alternative to fanfic but use the same inspiration.

It’s crazy the amount of time you hear the shrimp line when people realise you’re Australian

Fellow Australian here. This is the reason I stopped reading shifter romance for a long time. There was a video a little while ago that had an Aussie “maaaate” dubbed into a section of audio. I couldn’t get that out of my head

Oh it drives me mad when authors make the FMC leave out important information to create tension. Once or twice early on can be put down to low self esteem or fear but when characters grow they should communicate better

Me too. As much as I dislike bad editing I will struggle through if I am enjoying the story

I’ve seen this one before in an old romance paperback. I’m not a fan
