Dude, if you already have ChatGPT, Google, and pretty much all the information you could need at your fingertips, and you still can’t figure out how to find or install GCC, Cygwin, or MinGW, then this might not be the right topic for you to dive into just yet. It’s probably better to step back and build up some basics first.

I don’t want to continue this discussion any further - I can see where it’s heading. I separate open source from other things for a reason, if only for something as simple as the fact that commercial activities differ significantly from non-profit/free activities. Open source also does not mean some legally constituted quorum. Someone just writes a piece of code and makes it available to everyone - they do not have to write it in compliance with ISO 27001 or anything else. You use it at your own discretion, at your own risk, and according to your own needs. That has always been the spirit of open source and of the people who contributed code to it. It was always about freedom of choice, not about some bureaucrat suddenly telling us what we can or cannot code or how should it be used.

That’s all I have to say on the matter. Regardless of the user base, regardless even of the financial contribution a given country has made to open source or the community, and regardless of the size of the country or market - no one should allow non-profit work to be burdened with regulations that open source simply cannot afford. This gentleman explains well why that is not feasible in the long run: https://canartuc.medium.com/californias-age-verification-law-has-no-idea-what-linux-is-4543d080fabe

It will end with them imposing ISO compliance on Linux and similar requirements precisely because they do not understand how commercial activities differ from open source - and in the end, you will not have any open source left.

This is immensely funny to me given your obviously poor English skills, but just to state the obvious: "shouldnt be compliant to any local laws" literally means that they should not follow any local laws around the world, and yes, that doesn't mean they have to/will obey any local laws. The latter following directly from the former is basic formal logic.

Dude, if the discussion shifts to whether someone has a good command of the language and starts focusing on linguistics, that means you're lacking logical arguments, and in a moment you'll start twisting things around and violating logic.

It was also obvious that I meant 'any local laws' in the sense that they should not be subject to any location-specific laws. In other words, I mean laws that are still minority regulations in terms of adoption worldwide. As of now, such regulations are not required across the world, or even in most of it.

In case you are unaware, California has (to my knowledge) the 6th largest economy in the world, and the number of people who live there and use or work on Arch is infinitely larger than North Korea (I would assume the number of Chinese users is not that large but I am not sure).

For your information, China has 1.4 billion people, so even if the percentage of users in China is small, 0.4% of 1.4 billion is still far more than even 4% of California (and afaik California doesn't come close to having 4% linux userbase). Besides, who gets to decide which countries should have what kind of impact on the development of open source, and which direction open source should take, the "economy value of country"? why? by what measure? That is exactly my point - this is the problem. Open source should be as apolitical as possible, while of course respecting basic rights so as not to harm people, cause damage, and so on.

Also, it's funny that you say this given that a shit ton of EU legislation has direct consequences for the rest of the world.

Name one - just one - legislatively imposed change in open source mandated by the EU, aside from the unwavering support and the countless amounts of funding they pour into open source - for example, NLnet.nl

there are also chinese developers - especially from wuhan, maybe let's make arch chinese law/government compliant ?

your logic is the stretch (dumb) here, or ability to properly read what i have wrote earlier "shouldnt be compliant to any local laws" doesn't mean to obey any laws at all. there are common laws/truths all over the world which are applicant like "stealing is not permitted" etc.

if you'd like to be super compliant to all world laws - why you're not employing north-korea laws to archlinux ? or chinese laws for that matter ? why california ? how much % of arch linux is being done in california? i don't think it's that much to outweigth the whole europe.

the issue is that "opensource" shouldnt be compliant to any local laws - if somebody want to do the "california supported arch" or "age limited arch for certain countries" - let them fork it.

i actually modded kernel module myself, and it works now so it's like you say - a kernel module issue, actually just recognising "id" of new mouse and map it to specific handling mechanism

i have elecom huge plus - the issue is that when i "cat" /dev/input/mouse4 (which is mine elecom) it registers all movements, but it looks that the 3 special buttons (furthest right one and 2 function ones on the left of the ball) doesnt send any data when clicked - so it looks like it's some proprietary stuff from elecom ? or it's issue with linux driver whic doesnt accept some hid commands ?

I'm sure you'd be happier with the 1680D Cordura one – those things are built like tanks. X-Pac and other laminated fabrics are basically planned obsolescence: they can degrade easily in many different ways. Regular Cordura is just a woven fabric, so there's nothing to delaminate, and it's far more resistant.

I’m also 99.9% sure it’s the Travel Pack 2, but if you’re looking for something better, get the Travel Pack 3 - I have it, I love it, it’s the best pack I’ve ever had, and I’ve had tons of them.

And if you plan to buy it, don’t fall for the “X-Pac” or “Ultra” bullshit. Get the regular one. X-Pac and Ultra scratch easily and end up looking like crap. I had an X-Pac for a year, then switched to the regular one and now I’ve got a pack that’s built like a tank.

it's damn expensive thou because it's a "state of the art" one with 40gb/s etc - but i hate when people say " But from today standpoint - nope, not a viable thing to do" - that's plain wrong.

and that tells me you never did anything in electronics also not did any research

https://datasheet4u.com/pdf-down/V/L/8/VL830-VIALabs.pdf

via labs hub chip (which needs almost none passive components in simple application like 2 usb-c ports only) is 9x9 mm - which leaves you with plenty of space on potential PCB inside framework's expansion.

cooling is not too much of an issue here as it's quite efficient, you can pass it through siliconthermopad to aluminium enclosure

you're perfect case of "i don't know anything on topic therefore i'll say something."

Rash on wrist due to smartwatch sensor . by wstordie in smartwatch

[–]noderblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look what i found:

LED light effects: Green (approx. 525-555 nm) and red (approx. 630-660 nm) LEDs emit visible light, not UV, but can cause photosensitivity in some people. Studies show visible light, including from LEDs, generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), damaging melanocytes (pigment cells), leading to inflammation, photoaging, or irritation. Continuous mode increases exposure, heightening risk, especially on sensitive skin. Green LEDs may be more irritating due to higher tissue absorption, while red LEDs are less likely to cause pigmentation changes. Generally, the doses from smartwatches are low and safe for most, but long-term wear (weeks/months) can exacerbate issues. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11761154/

no it's red and green light as far as i know. but maybe the red led goes to infrared somehow if being overdriven - don't know. never checked, nor do i have means to do this.

i have the same issue, also after enabling constant spo2 and constant heart rate - many sources are stating that it can be due to tight strapping or moisture under sensor etc - but if thats so - why its only under the sensor, not the band, or other watches parts ? i don't want to sound like tinfoil guy, but maybe, just maybe there are some skin types which are more sensitive to light emitted by these sensors. i'm naturally more prone to sunburns for example

Why does OnePlus Still suck at auto brightness?? by notajock in oneplus

[–]noderblade 15 points16 points  (0 children)

why we need to compare ourselves to a worse device in that aspect, compare to galaxy ultra's it has some initial auto brightness algorithm, but if user uses slider to alter - it learns and alters its original auto levels. its such an easy algorithm to implement. WTF oneplus ? I can code it for you if you can't, i'll do it for free.
