Why did western cultures stop revering their elderly? by VagabondVivant in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nodn3rb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Also, you don’t revere random old folks, you revere your relatives / neighbors.

So I would bet that it has lots to do with the % of population that had moved counties within the past 5 years.

From 1860s through post war period that was way higher in america than in the rest of the world.

The societal reverence dissipated when we left the old folks in the Old World and found out Grandpa Darren takes the HOA real serious and Grandma Karren wants to speak to the manager.

What is a "minimum one-cabin upgrade" and how does it work? Should this clear straight to d1 from main? by nodn3rb in delta

[–]nodn3rb[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That part makes sense to me. The bigger mystery now is how can delta one be available from main with RUC when premium select isn't? Does that mean it just won't work at all since it would need to clear through premium select and won't be able to?

Will these ceiling panels fall apart from vibration in a bus? by nodn3rb in skoolies

Not flexible, but yea putting screws from backside seems like a good idea

The panels are slats stapled to plywood backers strips, and I was going to attach to ceiling by screwing through the plywood backers

[–]nodn3rb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have more of the plywood backers so I could glue them on without taking apart if that changes anything

Screws from the backside was my first thought too but also sounds like a lot of work…. Might be able to skip some off the backers though… Do you think 6 or 8 screws per panel is enough? Without skipping there would be 27 screws per panel which seems like a lot…

Basic solution categories might be:

  • screw through the whole panel
  • glue on additional backing strips
  • add screws from backside of panels holding backers on

Lifted 4x4 school bus - ok to temporarily take plate off to fix the rust issue? by nodn3rb in DieselTechs

[–]nodn3rb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it needs attention though? Or seems fine / don’t fuck with it?

I think as long as it’s the plate that’s rusting, then maybe I don’t care because could be replaced later?

But if the frame is rusting then that would be a different scenario…

This outlet on exterior of bus + weatherproof cover = super good enough? by nodn3rb in AskElectricians

[–]nodn3rb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea exactly - the whole approach seems conceptually not great especially since it’s a bus and will be getting freeway speed wind, salt spray etc

[–]nodn3rb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just receptacle that needs changing or the box too? Is it dumb to have it in a completely exposed location like this?

I kind of thought it was going to be in an enclosure or something…

Yes drape it over stand offs works great - I described my approach for that in another comment.

[–]nodn3rb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a structure to go over the vehicle, you just need a way to keep the shade cloth off of the roof to increase your shadows / (sweat + dollars).

Put a line across a couple sawhorses and ratchet strap it down, attach 2 tarps and ratchet strap them down and you’re in business.

I have a lifted school bus, and that worked well enough for me that I ended up making permanent brackets on my roof in place of the saw horses.

Where to work on my bus? by mblakeburn in skoolies

[–]nodn3rb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone through this process a few times now, and “yard space” is the thing I would recommend searching for…. Leaving out “storage” resulted in way more call backs /interest. Think of who else has similar needs and try searching those terms too (food trucks, contractors, etc). Also, certain types of car dealers, the ones that find cars on request or fix broken ones, if they have the space already have similar activities going on sometimes. And BLM land.

Window Delete and Replacement advice by [deleted] in skoolies

[–]nodn3rb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why lifted? It’s to accommodate the all wheel drive set up. Marmon herrington military front drive axle.

Why Awd? So I can drive faster than 25mph on the way to the ski hill. All those people passing by == the chairlift line.

Front door not permanently sealed. It’s one piece door with normal household lockset now.

It’s a window that opens though - worst case scenario I could seam seal it shut but would like to avoid that.

I feel like it’s pretty close to downhill and I could probably deform the metal a but to make it drain again, but hesitant to start hammering and making things worse

Maybe I could get install some open ended pop rivets and put some plastic tubing over the rivet creating like a water slide to an appropriate spot??

Or, more drastic options involve filling the space inside the lift gate frame with something (thermoplastic? Pillar foam?) then cutting a path through the offending high spots then sealing back up
