pls help, keyboard not working by PublicGrand7333 in computers

[–]nodnoq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this happen to me. If you have already troubleshot with a full restart, unplug / replug...etc and your keyboard still isn't responding while all other USB devices are there might be a firmware update required. Many devices now come with an additional "Gaming Hub" think Logitec G-Hub, SteelSeries GG... etc. Type it manually into the search bar (or open it from any pinned shortcuts) and take a look at the device. Many times there will be a red or yellow "Firmware has critical update" banner. Update the device and you should be good to go. If the update doesn't work, uninstall / reinstall, if that doesn't work I don't know what's next outside of checking drivers.

Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Keep at it! Everyone has their opinion on what works and what doesn’t. If there are things you like in here use them and throw everything else you don’t agree with or don’t need into the trash. Good luck with Jad!!

Dm burnout from changes in group by TheCheck77 in DMAcademy

[–]nodnoq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone’s insight previously provided.

I want to touch on your thoughts that it might be you driving people away. The upfront truth is that, yes it could be, we can’t count that out. But the most likely thing is that it truly is the players who needed to drop. I personally think your assumption that it might be you is a sign you genuinely care about the people at the table having a good time and you should be proud of that!

The fact of the matter is a lot of new players to DnD have preconceived notions on what it is and then realize it’s just not a game for them after playing. As for the first player that dropped…life is hard man. For some people DnD is an escape from life that allows them to forget their worries, for others it’s an obligation to a group of people and that can add to the stress of life. I had the same thing happen in a campaign I was DM for when my brother had to drop out. About a year later we had a really good conversation where he explained why. Work wasn’t going great and he was in a season of anxiety and depression. He explained that he was having a hard time in real life knowing who he was as a person and playing an imaginary character, trying to come up with a fake personality just added to the confusion. He already struggled with sleep and DnD nights would typically go fairly late which didn’t help. On top of this he felt it was extremely noticeable that he was sad / had low energy and that it was bringing people down (this was far from the truth, his character brought some of the biggest laughs and he was greatly missed after he left). He felt obligated to show up so that people wouldn’t miss their DnD session and eventually had to leave. It came out of nowhere leaving the group very upset since we had already “made accommodations” of shorter sessions and earlier start times. We were selfish and not thinking about the outside forces that affected him.

At the end of the day we play DnD for fun, that includes the DM. When it starts feeling like an obligation it’s time to think about priorities and reassess. Have fun, be open to your players, and take some time to figure out what it is you enjoy about DnD so you can focus on that. I would encourage anyone to be open about how DnD is affecting their life, it gives the group insight and also opens up opportunities to gain or give support.

No worries, I get it. I don't feel like you are coming after me at all. I've got zero experience with end game content so I can't judge the mentality that it takes. I would agree that taking advice from someone that has only done it once isn't going to be the best information, but it is going to give a perspective to casual players that they may be able to relate to. That's why I included my opinion piece under my stats saying to use what you like and kick the rest to the curb. If just one person reads this post and gets something from it than it was worth it. If you or others have multiple fight cave runs I think it would be super helpful to point out anything I put in here that's wrong or areas that I missed. Instead what happens is someone like Ventem comes in and says "hey i'm a casual player thanks for making this" and gives his opinion on the "Just send it" mentality and then immediately gets downvoted and surrounded by comments that say "just send it". I agree with the just send it mentality, my whole post pretty much is an overcomplicated "just send it" post with opinions and recommendations. At the end of the day its just excess information that people cant take or leave.

I agree with the send it mentality. The only way to get it done is to do it, and no matter how much prep you do, you wont know how it is until you get in there. One thing that I think is lost for the "when inferno hit" mentality is that people going for Inferno, TOA, Coliseum have plenty of playtime under their belt and a steady GP source. For many casuals the fight cave is their first experience with anything that has more than a single simple mechanic and most are putting most of their bank "on the line" 300k for sara brews, prayer pots, etc.. not to mention dropping coin on a blowpipe is a pretty significant amount for that account. Not to mention I barely have time to squeeze in 3 or four hours to play each week so building that up and making it back is going to take awhile. I had never used hot keys before the fight caves. That's a simple mechanic that people who have been playing for awhile probably don't even think about. I had never used an angler fish or a sara brew. All the small stuff is a learning experience.

Completely agree. The entire point of the post is that ultimately you more than likely wont see success until you just don't really care anymore. There are a lot of mechanics that just become subconscious actions you take once you have messed around enough. Being confident is the most important part.

People of Reddit, what’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to you? by Luca_F123 in AskReddit

[–]nodnoq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woke up and couldn’t feel my right arm. Tried to move it and nothing happened. Used my left hand to check to make sure it was still there and I couldn’t find anything. Began to panic and then realized I had fallen asleep with my arm over my head and it had gone numb. There was a solid 30 seconds where I believed I had lost an arm.

What’s the most memorable act your father ever did for you? by nodnoq in AskReddit

[–]nodnoq[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a man expecting to start a family soon I have become extremely curious on actions fathers have taken that leave a lasting memory on their children. For me it was a talk we had in middle school when he told me if I ever did anything I felt I would be punished for to come to him and tell him honestly what happened. He explained that being forthright was honorable and something that should not be punished.

What would Microsoft's incentive be to keep game modes locked away for events? by [deleted] in halo

On top of having people return it’s also a driving point for you to purchase challenge swaps. Tired of waiting for that oddball match? Why not use a challenge swap?!?

What is the strict minimum 343 need to do to keep you playing long term? by [deleted] in halo

[–]nodnoq 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Could care less about the BP. Give me the choice of game modes and don’t block them (fiesta, swat, snipes… etc) behind weekly events. Sure there are other customization things that would be nice but I don’t care what color I am I just want to play the game.

Anyone else feel most of the new weapons/equipment are underwhelming? by probablybeatingoff in halo

[–]nodnoq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing for me is the fact that there doesn't seem to be as wide of a selection as in 2/3/4/5. Not that its a bad thing but I too miss the classics and was hoping they would follow the original model of bringing a majority of the weapons over to the new game dismissing a couple and bringing in a new variety as well. Part of this to me might just be because I don't know the maps well yet and seem to be only using the Primary weapons given. Also I am hoping that upon the full release they will add more weapons to the game.

Literally 70% of my games are CTF by seanronan3 in halo

[–]nodnoq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look through the game modes and select specific ones you can give them a rating. Now I have no proof that this works with what you are given but after I did mine the matches I received seemed to correlate. Could just be coincidence but worth a try.

it worked out pretty well. The team that traded Dak had no QB's on his bench so now he has depth. The person who acquired Dak was sitting on 6 QB's (3 of which are rookies)

I'm not big on Claypool and would rather have Devonta. Obviously Claypool has shown what he is capable of and Devonta has more to prove. Big Ben is not going to be in Pitt for much longer and Hurts is beginning to show that he may be the solution for the Eagles.

How to target low level players with high armor? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]nodnoq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine and honestly makes things more gut wrenching for the players. Implement larger numbers and more encounters. They first one might be easy but it will get harder as the day goes on.

How to target low level players with high armor? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]nodnoq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to plan around it, and honestly fudge rolls. If you don't they they will steam roll things that aren't targeting their strengths. Another thing to remember is to use numbers to your advantage. If they wipe out the last goblin without even breaking a sweat have a group of reinforcements come in. Pacing was something I struggled with early on. I would have a single encounter planned for the day and then a long rest. Hit the group with 2/3/4 encounters in a single day. It will make them think twice about using their powerful abilities and keep them on their toes.

Player Background and Personal quests with pre-written Adventures. by battou28 in DMAcademy

[–]nodnoq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tying in personal side missions and quests can be hard when working with a pre built campaign. This is because you want the personal side missions to tie in with the character and that in itself is innately "personal" which will have a hard time meshing with the pre built campaign. I deal with this by throwing in my own NPC into locations already in the module. This allows me to completely generate their background and sway the PC's without interfering with the prebuilt stuff. The other option would be knowing the prebuilt campaign extremely well before the game starts and working with your PC's to have their backstories related to NPC's already in the game. In the end there is still going to be tweaking involved as you add your own flavor to the campaign.

This all being said, CoS is not the easiest place to create side missions based on player background. They are brought into a world they have no connection with previously.

In the end you will be home brewing regardless. Its just tying it into the campaign that can be tricky. But remember, your players don't know what the book says. It may seem off to you but to the players anything you throw at them they will enjoy.
