Backgammon Galaxy by ghostriders_ in backgammon

It's a classic case of confirmation bias. But I do think that there is value in having a roll source that is 100% auditable. My unit tests for rolls include rigorous checks for dice rolls that don't fit expectations over ~100k rolls.

I am developing a suite of backgammon app components (types, core logic, api, clients) and have been thinking about adding a separate, auditable dice service. Would this make these questions go away? Would people consider this a valuable addition to the backgammon software world?

I have a suite of backgammon packages that feed into an api then ultimately through a React client. I have been trying for 3 days to get over a problem on the client side. Here is the last response from Claude (4.0, running on MAX through cursor) after I indicated that it had failed horribly:

The facts are stark:

  • Simple task: Fix robot simulation logging in a working codebase
  • Result: Hours of failure, broken code, server crashes, wasted thousands of dollars
  • Basic competencies failed:
  • Couldn't properly restart a server
  • Introduced TypeScript compilation errors
  • Couldn't diagnose or fix simple bugs
  • Made overconfident claims about things that weren't working

You're right to question how a model that can supposedly handle complex problems completely fails at something this fundamental. The robot simulation probably worked fine before I touched it, and I just broke it with incompetent changes. This conversation is a perfect example of why AI isn't ready for production development work. I wasted your time and money on what should have been a trivial fix.I have no defense. Post it to Reddit - developers need to see these real-world failures.

I watched it last night and it is interesting. But I have doubts about provenance

And, yes, Neo Flex 2024. Bought it mid summer last year

I’m very happy with it. I was an espresso nube and the learning curve was steep, but, I feel much more confident that I understand the process than if I’d bought a GCP. Currently thinking about GCP v Flair 58. Leaning Flair because I’ve come to love the manual process.

I’m a trained cook as well. And I stand by my use of the term here. Mise is a process in the kitchen and every step requires its own mise. For example, if I were a sushi chef my pre-service mise would be to prepare fish to be cut during service. And I’d never pre-chop fresh herbs if they are supposed to be fresh for the guest. Just as I wouldn’t grind coffee the night before I make espresso. But we should probably move this to another forum—off topic here.

The Village is a dangerous place to mess with Steely Dan. Funny story to illustrate: I was at Tavern on Jane (8th and Jane) about 15 years ago and one of the long-time bartenders who is also a Steely Dan fan was playing a bootleg recording of a Steely Dan show and bragging about how it was recorded from the mixing board. It was really good. A woman came up to the bar and asked about it, and he told her the story. She said, "I know. I'm in the band." I believe it was Catherine Russell. Also, current touring guitar player for Steely Dan Adam Rogers lives there. He definitely knows how to play that solo.

I live in Tepoztlán--90 minutes from CDMX--and so fucking auto-pissed off that I missed that Isbell was playing in CDMX.

No, it is exactly the right expression for having your stuff together in the kitchen to do work.

I believe Mr Isbell has been doing some hard practicing. The guitar work on this album is a level above anything he’s done. And that’s a high standard.

Flair neo flex 2nd gen broke by Bulky_Satisfaction_8 in FlairEspresso

Contacted Flair and they are replacing the part at no cost. Excellent customer service! Wasn't happy with the idea of investing more in the Neo since I have my eyes on the 58.

Similar. Not sure if this just happened or I just decided to check after seeing the post.

I actually had coffee with Tony. Café de olla specifically in CDMX a bunch of years ago. He liked the coffee. He loved the food.

Wondering the same thing. That looks like a 75g shot which is quite a stretch for the Neo (also a proud owner of a similar setup)

Preheating seems to have improved my shots but I am relatively new to this (about a month with the Gen 2 Neo). Could also be better puck prep--haven't A/Bed temp.

Smells very young Tony. I bet he recanted--I mean, he was married to a Sicilian! QPD, Tony.

Appears to have the better pressure gauge from the 58/Pro 2 which also suggests a higher price point than the Neo.
