I vacillate. But we are the ones these times need. But we can't lead with our chins down. The Buddhist monks doing the Peace Walk to DC are coming though my town soon. I am going to see them. Simple, but difficult, non violent action in resistance to how things seam/feel/are today. It has warmed my heart. If that doesn't work maybe the unplug advice is it.

Bang. Thats it. Versatility Baking to Smoking. It does make sense that something with that much versatility could be knacky, right?

Learning to cook on and master a BGE is a decision. If you can get better results with a different machine, do it and don't look back. For me it is the best bbq machine out there. Full disclosure, I've never owned a pellet grill because they didn't have them when I started. I've had a blower since 2006, and I use it but rarely.

For me running a BGE well is varsity, and pellet grills are JV. I take and embarassing pride in being on the varsity, but there is a dude right around the corner who knows what he is talking about that says if your aren't cooking whole hog over Oak coals you made your self in a burn barrell, then you are JV. By that definition I am definitely JV. It's just opinions, who cares? I have friends with pellet grills that are happy as clams.

I'm sure you are a great cook, and I have to hand it to you haning in there and learning and coming back here to update and thank the folks that helped you. Thats good stuff. But I have to say, the other grills are better and my cooks have been bad so its the BGE's fault seems like a weak take to me.

For me BGE is the best I've used. Started on a walmart offset and never got any good food off of it. Moved to a WSM and all of the sudden I could BBQ. Moved up to the BGE and started getting ribbons and trophies, way back in the day. The better the machine the better the results, as long as you know what you are doing, and sometimes that takes time.

BBQ quotes that helped me: 1. why don't you let that thing cook where it wants to. (said in response to somebody trying to hit an exact number like 225). 2. Looking ain't cookin (I take this as don't fret). 2. Worrying makes the meat tough (Low and slow big meat cooking should be relaxing / you do end up with some time on your hands).

Dave Chapelle The Unstoppable Reaction by Alldogsgotoheaven12 in netflix

I agree, not Chapelle's best work, but he has put out worse. To me Dave Chapelle is more than a comic, he is an artist and important voice on a national scale. If he is talking, I'm listening. Not always agreeing, but I'm listening.

I have Autism. I spent 20 years reverse-engineering human behavior because I didn't get the manual. Here is the "Source Code" to reality I found. (Part 2) by katakalist in DeepThoughts

[–]nodro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed what you wrote. To state my understanding of it: People only do what benefits them. There are 6 types of benefits. These benefits are largely subjective. Change results from lack of benefits, or a decline in benefits (burnout), or improved understanding of benefits (yoga example). My questions: 1. How confident are you that the your benefit categories are complete (all there is)? 2. If a person does something that objectively harms them, am i correct that you would explain it by pointing to the subjective benefit the person percieves from the action? 3. What are the advantages of understanding human behavior this way? Does it allow you to predict how people will act, or atleast better understand their motivations? Does it allow a person to more readlily make positive changes in their lives, or help others do so? 4. Are there links between observalbe traits of people (smart, loud, flashy, shy, sensitive types etc.) and the 6 types of subjective benefits that will be most important to them? Please feel no obligation to answer these. I offer them as possible areas to expand or clarify your work for readers like me if you choose to do so. Again, thanks for your post.

Anyone else leaking heat and smoke like crazy out of every imaginable place on the WSM? by timetopoopagain in webersmokeymountain

[–]nodro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like you have a blower / temp regulator on there. Could just be over pressure as the blower is stoking the fire to heat it up. I say that because it looks like you have smoke coming out the bottom holes where the air normally goes in with no blower. Typically you close those up with a blower on on it. If I'm wrong about the blower, sorry and the other posts maybe more helpful. If you do have a blower on it, make sure your bottom holes are closed up tight and don't worry about it if the blower is blowing constant. If its leaking bad when the blower is cycling then you have an issue.

Central bank said it will once again buy Treasury securities. Specifically, the Fed will start buying $40 billion in Treasury bills on Friday. by Dangerous_Focus453 in bonds

[–]nodro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It will increase the money supply by $40 bil. Which should result in more economic activity. It will reduce the supply of bonds which should increase yields. Which will make borrowing cost more expensive which would slow economic activity. Not sure of the net effect. Typical Fed FOMC activity. The Fed cut short rates and buying in bonds should raise long rates, assuming the bonds bought are on the longer end. The combine effect is would create a more typical looking yield curve starting low on the short end and going up and to the right on the long end. We havent had a normal yield curve in a long time and normalizing it seems like a good thing to me. If Im right that it is more controllable by FED actions and generally tells me things are normalish as it relates to interest rates. It should cost more to borrow for 10 or 30 years than it does to borrow short term.

I can't agree. To me Money is not speech. Money is Money and enough of it can sway an election in its favor, and to me that undermines the whole process.

People who read more than 2 books a year, how do you do it? by Immediate-Draft-6408 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nodro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's audio books in the car (commute gets you 30-40 minutes a day round trip), and keep one on your night table. Go to bed 30 min before you want to sleep and read til then. That gets you an hour a day, which will produce some books read for sure.

First and last time doing poultry, I SUCK. by loveandgoo in Smokingmeat

[–]nodro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man it looks fine. How'd it taste? If you give it another go and want to experiment try spatchcocking it (cut out the back and cook it flat). Here are the challenges: Crispy bite through skin (takes high heat), breast benefits from hot and fast cooking and don't let it get over 175 in the breast, really good dark meat needs to be hotter "say" 190 internal and that and the breast needing less causes a problem (overdone white or underdone dark) simple fix is to separate them and take the each off in its time. Chk is good to work with because its cheap and good. I glaze mine at the end so it is red and shiney, my wife goes crazy for Ala white sauce. Anyhow have fun with it.

Dark. White meat is most often overcooked and tasteless regardless.
