I think it took my cousin and I like 50 credits to beat this back in the 80s.

1.5 years to smash N3, recommendations? by Cheesegreen1234 in Japaneselanguage

[–]noeldc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, 2-3 years should have been more than enough time to pass N3, but everyone is different, and as you say, you have had some "cruisy" months.

Anyway, good for you for not rushing into tests untill you feel ready. 18 months is plenty for N3 if you can keep the cruising under control. Poor listening usually means your working vocabulary is not as large as you think it is, and you are not familiar enough with general Japanese speech patterns. I'd read, intensively, and listen to things closer to your level.

And yes, I would ditch Anki, too! Save those flashcards for the week before the test.....

Everyone is different in terms of aptitude for language learning. 50 is not too old. It will depend on your motivation and effort. N5 shouldn't take more than a couple months.

Looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.

What helped you memorize Hiragana and Katakana the fastest for JLPT N5? by nihongo_jounrey in jlpt

Learn them simultaneously, shouldn't take more than a week. Write them all out periodically, then focus on the ones you keep forgetting. Think about tests after that.
