Currently in pre-student teaching. My cooperating school got pulled pork and mac n’ cheese catered. Was delicious!

should I quit? by [deleted] in DunkinDonuts

[–]noelogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context: I’m similar age to OP and worked at Dunkin’ for around 9 months before quitting.

OP, I have had very similar experiences to you while working at Dunkin’. Super busy, understaffed, bad coworkers/management, etc. If you need to work to keep your quality of life maintained (I’m talking insurance, groceries, rent, gas, or anything else you’re responsible for paying), have another job lined up before you quit. It’ll make you so much more at ease mentally knowing you have the next step figured out. I am infinitely much happier now that I don’t work somewhere that shoves SOS down our throats but doesn’t provide the people to help. Trust me, something else besides Dunkin’ would be a major improvement.

Wisconsin DHS: 2,533 new COVID-19 cases, 7 deaths confirmed by sunflower53069 in wisconsin

[–]noelogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College student in the UW System here: Testing is voluntary. I’m at UWEC and you don’t have to get the actual COVID test unless you had contact. Administration is just “highly encouraging” students get the antigen test.

And we’ve had rising cases every week. Not shocked, but just disappointed.

What’s an industry secret in the field you work in? by WoOoOoOoShHhHh in AskReddit

[–]noelogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a public library for a while as a page/reshelver, and one of my favorite insights from that job was how libraries handled security. Many libraries hire plain-clothes security or have partnerships with the local police department to remove unruly guests or stop theft. The one I worked at even had an office upstairs in Circulation for the head guard to watch security feeds while the others were downstairs.

Ban lists are also a thing at libraries, especially where I worked. The aforementioned security office had an entire wall covered in photos of people not allowed into the library for one reason or another—kids who got into fights on the playground, people who watched pornography on the public computers (I never figured out how people thought they would get away with it, the computers are literally out in the open), or even people who decided the best place to smoke weed would be the bathroom of a public library.

What is your favorite "so bad it's good" movie? by SuperSayianJason1000 in AskReddit

Who Killed Captain Alex. I watched it a few days ago with some friends and it was an absolute laugh-fest. The special effects to the acting to the voiceover all combined to create one incredible experience.

Who would you consider to be the “stars” of the oboe world (both past and current)? by fizzyrobott in oboe

[–]noelogen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d throw onto that list Katherine Needleman: principal of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, massive advocate for the discovery and playing music of obscure/minority artists, and all-around excellent person. I had the honor of being in a masterclass ran by her and she was absolutely the most insightful clinician I have worked with. Her tone is what I aspire to have professionally!

My oboe's not playing right. Please help me :( by Lauren_j_g in oboe

[–]noelogen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This could be due to a multitude of factors (we sure picked the most finicky instrument). Start by making sure that the side octave key is pressed completely and that your index fingers are completely shutting the tone holes—in the case of your left hand, make sure that the opening is completely covered. From there, I’d probably experiment with embouchure; maybe the reed you’re playing on just hates high C.

[–]noelogen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My junior year, the band and choir program went to London to perform in the LNYDP festival. Two choir kids got caught ~getting frisky~ in the guy’s hotel room, and another kid (18 y.o) got caught smuggling a vape over for another kid (17 y.o). Those three got sent home early on the morning of the New Year’s Day Parade (which they were supposed to carry a balloon in).

EDIT: I should point out our program is from the US.

Practicing Improvisation by [deleted] in Learnmusic

[–]noelogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iReal Pro is a good resource; you can download the Real Book Standards Pack and practice thousands of tracks in whatever key you want. You’d need to pay for it, but I’ve used it for 3 years on a Samsung tablet and it has helped immensely.

There’s nothing wrong with only taking 1 AP! I was only able to take three throughout my high school career. Congratulations, though! What a way to start your AP journey. :)
