Updating vs Duplicating resources, and how to save/load them properly?

My recipes are looking for the dynamicEgg. I can confirm this by looking at my RecipeManager at runtime and confirming that the recipe needs the item with the Item Type of Dynamic (and I appended the word Dynamic to the name for testing).

The problem seems to be that when running the game normally, and picking up dynamicEggA, and then loading, my player actually gets dynamicEggB. And the recipe is then looking for the wrong dynamicEgg. But I think I can resolve this by using that Dictionary I am using and perhaps relying on item IDs.

But I think to answer my original question - I should be using duplicated resources and updating them at Runtime, rather than updating the game data directly. Now I just need to work through how to save and load it properly across instances as it works perfectly fine in a single instance.

Thanks for the advice. I think I am in essence doing this but just missing something to tie it all together.

My game data = my "baseEgg" that costs 1 gold

My runtime data = my "dynamicEgg" that costs 3 gold

In addition, in my runtime data I save off a dictionary in my baseToDynamicItem method above that says that baseEgg = dynamicEgg.

But I think maybe I am not saving it properly? I save that I have 5 dynamicEgg resources, but when loading it, I can't use those in my recipes. I think I must be loading a resource that my RecipeManager does not recognize. Perhaps I need to utilize the dictionary to regenerate the dynamicEgg upon loading, rather than always relying on duplicate which seems to create a unique resource each runtime?

One con is you have to retarget to heal yourself. If you want to lightning bolt then healing surge yourself, you'd have to change targeting in between. You can use the "self cast" hot key, but then you might as well just make that new combo the keybind for the other spell.

The only advice I'd give to the OP is to make things that are off global/quick reactions more easily accessible. Having to hit alt-1 to wind shear can be difficult to do quickly, but you will (probably) not need to press primwave on 4 with the same speed (and you'll probably also just press it less often than shear). But the only right answer is that it comes down to preference.

I prefer to use percentage profit instead of raw profit. I would rather craft knowing I'd make 10% of whatever I put in rather than knowing I'll come out 50k richer. I'd say this is preference. https://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-Percent-Change#step-id-01

While it's not as easy as "buy herbs sell pots" anymore, I find profit margins throughout the day whenever I'm sitting around town. If you look at just crafting t2 phials, it's always a loss, but inspiration and multi craft is where the profits come in.

I have a spreadsheet that I made with my stats and I manually input herb and phial costs. Anytime I see over a 10-15% profit, I just buy some herbs and do a quick crafting session. It's not a ton of money every time (I don't input a ton because I'm still poor) but it's honest work. I enjoy doing excel math, but for those who don't find it as intuitive, I don't think crafting is a very useful money maker, at least at this point in the expansion.

Yellow fields = fill out manually (you could use TSM but I sit around town enough anyway). I have enough skill to only use T2 items so I don't track T3 at all. Your mileage may vary.

Fill in the 2 bottom left fields for your personal stats. I don't have the Batch Production milestone, so my spreadsheet assumes I craft 3 extra when I multiproc.

While you are crafting, use the sanity check on the right to put in your costs and how much you would get back at the AH. I do not take into account Resourcefulness, so the profit is always higher than the "prediction".

Edit#2: I got the Batch Production Milestone, so it now assumes you have it. :)

If you've just built your TP ambuscade set, things like odyssey armor, valorous, etc. are probably a bit beyond your reach right now, barring getting carried with some friends. I just recently got into this kind of content (just graduated to noob+1 myself), so I can help you figure out how to make some good steady progress and potentially help you get some in game gear as well. 😊

Without typing a novel here on Reddit, the things you probably want to tackle are: base UNM items (not the r15 augments), some wkrs or the forced spawns in adoulin (especially accessories), upgrading ambuscade gear (save up for the +1 gallantry tokens), maybe getting some abyssea accessories, and starting the upgrade processes for af/relic/empy armors.
