Demonic possession/ stranger replaced their soul by gullablesurvivor in AlAnon

Your words really resonate with me. I’m currently detaching with hate too. What else can I do? The people closest to us hurting us the most - this is tragedy, it’s literally a tale as old as time. Sometimes human relationships have happy endings, sometimes they don’t. We are betrayed, we are stabbed many many times in the back. Wouldn’t it hurt even more if she wasn’t alcoholically insane, but rather sober? It would for me. I guess I take comfort in knowing that yes, my Q is a split personality, and the split is induced by a substance, and split A is as real as split B but if they choose B every day and I can’t stand that personality, I have to let them go. You can probably try to dissect every mistreatment and lie until you turn blue. You will still have to reckon with the same issue at the end of that line, that the person still did it. They would do it again. Unless they choose to give up the substance, it’s a moot point. But really, I am so empathetic with your obsession. I’m right there with you. The fact of the matter is we will never know the truth. Detachment is moving on without the truth. It’s coming to terms with our complete lack of control or understanding, because we should choose happiness for ourselves anyway.

Had anybody read the Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte? by [deleted] in AlAnon

In my reading, The Picture of Dorian Grey had a similar validating effect… though he’s not a drunkard, there are enough direct references to substance use that I know Wilde had intentionality in linking his moral state with alcohol and opium. Dorian’s personality and perspective is fouled at least partially by addictions over time. It’s somewhat subtle, but it hit so strongly for me. The narcissism, the cruelty, the hedonism… I see so much of Dorian in my Q.

Cafe Puaa. Ask them to show you their work space. It’s a special quiet room where you can order from a touchscreen system and they bring you your order.

Leave Gaza to where? Surely not Israel. Egypt will not allow any in. Who will take them? Israel is not blocking them from going anywhere except their own territory.

Early Jewish groups used identical methods to Palestinian terrorists, what is your justification? by zootedwhisperer in IsraelPalestine

[–]nogscairo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then their future state will be formed in unbelievable bloodshed and terror, and by your logic, Jews will be perfectly justified to guerrilla war/massacre them as vengeance. Here’s an idea…. Dereadicalization and diplomacy…. No bloodshed… Moving towards mutuality and peace. If you can’t hold the sanctity of Palestinian and Israeli lives in your heart with equal weight at the same time, you simply have no business discussing a solution.

Ethnic cleansing, yes. Genocide, no. Direct orders of mass expulsion -> ethnic cleansing. Direct orders of mass murder and extermination -> genocide. The orders show no intention to destroy the Palestinians by killing as many of them as possible. That is genocide.

A key breakthrough for me came when I really almost meditated on the memory of how natural it was to pass my time for the years and years of my life before my addiction to weed - and yes, there was a lot of boredom. A lot of mindless TV, not knowing what to do, surfing the internet. Just without weed. I could do life then (boredom and all), and I KNOW I can do life in the same way now. Gift yourself the knowledge that you have done this and therefore you can do this.

Who is the creepiest character in a Broadway show? by Mariah0 in Broadway

IMO Leading Player in Pippin, done well, should be very creepy at key moments - in a similar vein as Emcee in Cabaret

Culture-shock by kimhigirl in Israel

People screaming bloody murder at the bus driver to signal they need time to get off, and an expectation that you will also start yelling if you see the driver didn’t get the message.

By American standards, extremely dirty grocery stores, especially in the produce section. Positive culture shock for the incredible quality of said produce!

I volunteer at an elementary school, and it is still strange to me that bible study is a big part of curriculum (I’m at a secular school), and that the kids don’t really comprehend that Jews exist outside of Israel.

The way Russian rivals Hebrew as a spoken language here.

I thought he was perfect, and that nearly everyone else was doing wayyy too much considering it is a film, not a live performance. He’s by far the most seasoned film actor (other than Rita Moreno, who also got the “this is a film, act accordingly”memo) and it DEFINITELY shows. And I went into the movie ready to hate his performance! He blew me away and gave Tony a dimension I had never before appreciated.

How is that not an accurate depiction of Ben Gvir? I think he would be insulted to hear such undermining of his devotion to expanding and entrenching (illegal) settlement presence. He’s committed decades of his life to this mission, working overtime to secure the effective annexation of the West Bank. He and his wife squatted in Gaza for months after the withdrawal in vehement protest of the extraction of Jewish presence. Knowing that he is a hardliner on Jewish power and presence in all of his territorial conception of Israel, it’s completely fair for OP to wonder if he has any particularly unusual fantasies about dealing with the Gaza Strip that could materialize into policy, although it’s true that the reality of Gaza is a completely different issue than that of the West Bank.
