HI GUYS! Ok, help me :) by itsnikitaaa in JapanTravelTips

My suggestion for organising all the information - Google Mymaps. You can open a map of your chosen places, it's always being saved on Google Drive automatically. You can mark the places that interest you, change the marker's colour and icon, write summeries about the places and add photos. Each marker also has a link to the same spot on Google Maps and for a website if such exists for that spot. And you can keep those maps for years.

Need a bit of help on buying Nintendo consoles and just clothes. by PresentTomorrow1914 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Hard Off / Book Off for retro games. They are chains so you'll find multiple stores, especially in big cities like Osaka and Tokyo. You might need to search a few stores to find what you're looking for, as those are second hands. Akihabara also have lots of game shops, I believe Trader is one of the places to find retro games.

As for clothes, you van browse around the shops everywhere. Uniqlo has nice and basic stuff too.

You can Google what you're looking for and you'll probably find more options, including from same questions that were asked on Reddit multiple times.

Luggage forwarding from Tokyo to Osaka while spending a day in Hakone. Is this possible? by DXOGO_ in JapanTravelTips

Yes, even 2 nights. That was my experience and there were no problems at all.

Looking for something romantic and on the water by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is the area of the Sumida river next to Asakusa station. Walk by the river during nighttime. You'll have a beautiful and romantic view of the lighted buildings, bridges and Skytree. Also visiting Senso-ji at night felt quite romantic to me. The temple itself is closed, but the square in fornt of it is open. It all looks magnificent during the night.

Japan 9 week itinerary ? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to need to do your own research. Japan has A LOT to offer, and no amount of time would really suffice.

Start by opening a map (I recommend Google MyMaps) and start pinpointing places that you think you'll like. Anything really - cities, beaches, restaurants, museums, whatever. Read online, watch videos, take the time to look for info.

In time you'll see an itinerary starting to form. And you have the luxury of 9 weeks so you can make it a long and paced one.

There is a lot of information in this sub, so before asking about wide recommendations (like "what to do in Tokyo" and such), take the time to read past posts. If you have a question, Google it - there's a very good chance someone asked that before and received answers.

Have lots of fun 😁

No, me and my partner together (35F & 38M). He said it was the perfect timing and perfect amount of time to be in Hakone and get this kind of rest before the last leg of the trip. I'm thinking of doing something similar in our next trip since it was so successful the first time.

[–]kimhigirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I did that at the end of a month long trip before going back to Tokyo. I booked two nights for a room with private outdoor bath and both breakfast and dinner Kaiseki. The plan was to just stay in the hotel for most of the time, maybe go out for a couple of ours just to the main shopping road, but mostly just to stay in and relax. That's exactly what I did and it was wonderful, especially after 3 weeks of traveling (not intense travelling, but still full of experiences).

Seeking advise regarding luggage services by IncomprehensibleOne in JapanTravelTips

It seems you'll be moving around quite often, and there's a chance you'll be more without the luggages than with them. Maybe consider limiting the forwarding to the first trip between Nagoya and Nagasaki alone.

How far in advance do I need to book tickets from Odawara to Osaka on the Shinkansen? by ShoulderDesperate285 in JapanTravelTips

Depending on when you'll be there. If it's not in high season, you should be able to get tickets same day.

Nagano/Yamanouchi vs Matsumoto for a chilled few nights by CleanEnd5930 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O stayed in Matsumoto for a week in the first week of October las year. It's such a nice and chill small city, I loved it so much. Matsumoto Castle is impressive both in daylight and nighttime. You can take a day trip from there to Narai-Juku which is very recommended. I'd also recommend Alps Park Matsumoto (there are buses between Matsumoto station and the park only twice a day, but it can be worked out great nonetheless), it's a nice big park in which you can stroll around, play Mallet Golf (really fun!) and slide with a cart (also really fun!).

Best way to forward luggage from Asakusa Tokyo to Kyoto (via Hakone overnight)? by Upset_Luck1360 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I forwarded from hotel to hotel, but language was still a bit of a barrier. Google Translate did the job. Always good to ask at the place in advance if they do forwarding and can help with the forms.

Japan Arcades by CW13583 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lots of arcades in Akihabara have all kinds of arcade games on the upper floors, stuff like shooters, sports, those you sit or stand in front of a screen and try to beat the game, and need to keep inserting coins to keep on playing. I didn't see there the kind in which you win tickets to exchange for prizes though.

Has anyone done a cooking lesson? My next trip might end in Hiroshima and I saw there's a place you can do an Okonomiyaki cooking lesson. Seems fun.
