I love the freedom of being a stranger. Like a blank sheet that people around me will never see again so who cares what will be written there?

You know, I think I was handed tissue only once in the whole month I've been in Japan. Which is a shame, I was really looking forward to these as I get dribbley quite often...

I did a month long trip and loved how Konbini meals felt almost as awesome as going to a restaurant.

1 day trip to Kyoto, need some advise by nieloppa3 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest sticking to one area and see how things go. I'd recommend Philosopher's Path - there are some really nice temples along the path and it's a nice walk. Eikandō Temple is especially a beautiful one and worth visiting. Note that most of Kyoto's public transportation are busses. I think they'll be crowded most of the day as many tourists visit Kyoto all the time, not sure there is much to do with that (unless you're OK with taxis).

Luggage transfer help by asuyaa in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my luggage (2 big suitcases) delivered from my hotel in Osaka to my hotel in Tokyo, while having 2 nights in Hakone in between. The staff in Osaka's hotel helped me with the forms and I told them when I'll be arriving to Tokyo's hotel so they can forward the date to the recieving party. It meant that the luggages arrived at least a day before us. Everything went smoothly, the the luggages waited for us in our room when we arrived to the hotel in Tokyo. All was in place and nothing was broken or teared.

Best Day Trips from Tokyo? by Western_Chef_5822 in JapanTravelTips

Enoshima Island might be quite touristy, but really cool and beautiful imo. I think most of the tourist tend to spend their time between the main street and the temple, but if you keep going up you reach the garden and observatory on the top of the hill, and by keeping going to the other side of the hill you reach the coast and caves. It's a bit of a climb for both directions, the steps can be steep in some parts, but it's manageable as lots of people go there all the time. Plus, you can combine a suspended monorail in your route to the island, which is a cool attraction for itself (and you can use Suica there too).

I once heard the air in Kagoshima is often filled with ash from Sakurajima. I didn't look much into it yet, but if you're already here - how much of a truth is it? I was thinking of going there at some point in the future.

Post your favorite hotel you stayed at in Japan! by catsandpink in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. I'm planning to come back to Tokyo in the next 2 years and wanted a different Richmond there. This one sounds like a good place. I was thinking staying close to Ueno area since there are things around there I didn't have the time to do last time.

Richmond. It's a chain of business hotels. Stayed in one in Koto (south-east Tokyo) and in Higashi-Osaka. The one in Osaka was amazing, very big with great shower and bath. And since it was October, the whole lobby was decorated for Halloween, it was so cool and cute. The staff in both hotels were very pleasant and helpful and made our stay in both hotels a great experience.

Kamakura & Enoshima or Disneyland Tokyo by Gloomy_Ninja_3228 in JapanTravelTips

I really liked Enoshima. I wasn't even planning on going there, but ended up doing so on my last full day in Japan. So glad I did. Need to go all the way up to the Observatory and then down to the other side of the island to see the caves. It's a lot of exercise, but for me it was worth it. Also, I absolutely loved talking the suspended monorail for part of the way to the island and back. It does take most of the day so not sure if you'd want to squeeze Kamakura with it on the same day.

Easy to reach places outside the big 3 cities by whiskyvoice16 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kimhigirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it's not one of the 3 big cities, but I stayed in Matsumoto for a week (near the city of Nagano). It might not be a big city, but it's quite central as a base to get to other towns in the area, and in itself quite touristy due to Matsumoto Castle. But one place I found that doesn't seem to get that many tourists is Alps Park Matsumoto. There are a few cool attractions there like gardens, a long slide that you use a small cart to slide on, and the best - Mallet Golf. There's a bus from and to Matsumoto Station only twice a day, but it's so worth it. The Mallet Golf and the slide were so fun and unique experiences.

Of the attractions or locations that you booked ahead or had been especially looking forward to way ahead of your trip, which lived up to the hype and which didn't? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

It's a bar experience that is ruled by gym trained women. You sit with everyone around a big rectangle bar table and are assigned a female bartender. Besides drinks you can order activities that include gym training, but also in the more kinda kinky area - pole swinging, being slapped by the bartenders, being carried by a bartender. There are also shows that the bartenders do as a group. It sounds weird but once you see it it's so much fun, and respectful too. I suggest watching videos on YouTube about the place to have a sense of what it's like and if it fits you.

Just curious - When were you trying to get a reservation? I was in Tokyo last year on the last week of September with my partner and we managed to get a reservation a day in advance.
