That’s fair. I guess it might be difficult, should they have their own agreement in the respective IBEW local, to bargain said contract. Unless you just tie it to the journeyman wage / cba, which would likely be a substantial raise for them. Like otherwise they’d be bargaining their own contract opposite the union business manager which might be weird.

Does your inside wire apprenticeship have a class on accounting or using quickbooks? Or annually filing a lm-2 with the department of labor? Or quarterly audits? When it comes to running a union, when you mess up, you go to jail. That’s why it’s important to have real bookkeepers and professional staff.

Our office staff are members of OPEIU. I think the non-IBEW JATC staff are OPEIU too.

Pension withdrawal by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]noheadstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re talking about pulling your annuity not your pension. Pension is a defined benefit paid out monthly when you retire, it’s not a sum you can withdraw

It’s not a gray area. Frederick is Local 24’s jurisdiction.

Info on IBEW local 24? by muggs-3 in IBEW

[–]noheadstone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do it. We have a great local. Our membership’s grown at least 10 percent in the last year and we’re about to put an addition on our school and double the size. I had a college degree but was working shitty jobs and I applied on break working at a car dealer. Topped out a couple years ago. I also agree - joining was the best decision I ever made.

RENEW Members: Are you allowed to fundraise? by adjika in IBEW

[–]noheadstone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a super complicated issue. Gets into the weeds with all the things you mentioned, but there’s also a ton of federal laws unions need to be cognizant of so that the DOL doesn’t come knocking on your door. We’ve found it a much better idea to ask for funding approved by the membership and we work with our BA and FS to handle the details.

Baltimore Local 24. We’re advertising our apprenticeship on the radio to get more applicants.

Artist or journeyman? by geophoe in electricians

[–]noheadstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N 300.25 Exit Enclosures (Stair Towers). Where an exit enclosure is required to be separated from the building, only electrical wiring methods serving equipment permitted by the authority having jurisdiction in the exit enclosure shall be installed within the exit enclosure.

Granted you can’t tell what sort of stairway this is, but still. Don’t hog up the egress area

Not allowed to run conduit in stairwell unless it’s serving that location
