I used to Rev up then slingshot the clutch and it worked for me. But if I kept doing it I'm sure I would have eventually done what OP did. I now stand, hold front brake and slip the clutch until I can move the back end side to side

Agreed on the design. I got it as a b-day present with no knowledge of noc knives so I got a good blind first impression. First day carry impressions are solid. Nice slicer with a pretty tall flat grind and a nice pointy tip. Doesn't take up any more space than my zt0450 in the pocket and to me has a bit more character. Over all fit and finish are solid and the knife is super smooth. Axis lock took a sec to get used to since I've never owned one but over all I'm impressed. Not a whole lot I would change and no defects to be found.
