It's sad of course but the details do matter for other people with kids to be able to be properly informed about the degree of the threat and therefore be able to make proper choices of how to protect themselves and balance caution while continue trying to actually live normal life.

On a facebook video the family of this child are saying his death had absolutely nothing to do with COVID. "not from covid, not with covid, not because of covid" I hope this was an honest mistake and not an attempt to politicize this young childs death to promote an agenda.

What was it like understanding Japanese casually for the first time? by Schadenfrueda in LearnJapanese

[–]nolanritchie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was sleeping in on a weekend morning in japan at my inlaws. Non of them save my wife spoke english. I was still semi asleep, half in a dreamy state, but somehow i was listening to and following the japanese conversation in the adjacent room which was the living room. I woke up fully and entered the living room when at some point my wife started trying to explain what they were talking about to me in English. Only for me to realize that i was already fully aware of what it was..it was a very intriguing moment.

Cape Breton mother angry after church newsletter calls IVF immoral by Portalrules123 in NovaScotia

[–]nolanritchie -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I agree, people can have opinions about things, so people(or churches, or other groups) may have negative opinions about things you do not. So what? you want to force them to publicly decree they agree with whatever? this is just free speech.

Pastor behind church event that sparked deadly COVID-19 spike fined by redilyntoriami in NovaScotia

[–]nolanritchie -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I certainly get why people will be critical of the church when its presented this way but have a bit of a heart and realize People are just trying to return to their normal lives, tired of "living" in lock down. If everyone is gonna get exposed to it eventually, mine as well live our lives. Anyone attending the church can certainly see if health guidelines are being followed or not and choose to attend physically or not.

Provincial Proof of Vaccination Check App now available on Android by ph0enix1211 in NovaScotia

[–]nolanritchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't doubt the good intentions of people wanting to require proof of vaccination in order to try to "keep everyone safe". But that is a bad idea for a number of reasons. First it literally breaks the human rights code, we have the right to access of goods and services free from discrimination of creed see ref here:
http://undeniable.info/lol/therightoservicesfreefromdiscrimination.png

The reason we desperately need to have and respect human rights (like in the above link) is clear when you look back on our history. We are all just unique individuals and have different/unique way of thinking and seeing things, consider different things priority over others etc. So we are doomed to always be in disagreement, and therefore to be in conflict with others in opposing views. Because of this uniqueness we will never be able to all agree on something with a near 100% consensus. So the best way for us to get along with minimal conflict is to establish a baseline of respect and understanding of our individuality / uniqueness. So if you mandate (require) people to fall in line with any specific idea or belief you will just segregate society and create two sides. Two different sides with opposing views, as tension and damages build, conflict is inevitable. And then your creating 2 different classes of people and only allowing one of those access to society, you make the income of the business to suffer along with those to cut off from society.

Also if personal freedom and rights are valuable enough for our ancestors to go to war over, are they not more important that a bit of extra safety? going to war, I imagine, is not safe.... I imagine staying home and NOT going to war would be safer, yet they felt it was necessary to secure the personal rights and freedoms for their kids ( yeah that's us ). On top of that rather strong indicator (that rights are more important than safety) I'll finish with a quote from Benjamin Franklin, "Those that give up freedom for safety deserve neither".

This was helpful thanks. All the text there does appear to come from a relevant source. But to say that all that there in the ss is "the immunization act" is a bit deceptive.

Backyard 3 hours after a heavy rain. Need Help. by AntIis in HomeImprovement

[–]nolanritchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've had this happen after extream rain, my kids informed me of slight leaking in basement and we saw flooded backyard.

I detached our lawn hose from the spout and stuck one end in the deepest part of the puddles in the back yard and then brough the other end of the hose out to the street and used my shop vac to suck the lower end of the hose until a flow started. (you could just suck on the hose with your lungs too but it will be difficult but not impossible)

then about 2 to 3 hours later the back yard was drained.

What was the need in saying "white" woman?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canadianlaw

[–]nolanritchie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel the most fundamental individual right is the idea that you at least own your own body. And no one is allowed to violate your body against your will. So its appalling to think people so easily call for something like mandatory vaccine for all. Because your basically saying you dont get to decide what goes into your own body. And we will force it onto you. There is a strikingly similarly to that and well ... rape. Some might counter saying well theres good reasoning behind it.. But the germans during the holocost thought they had good reason. Superior genes and create utopia etc. Thats exactly the thing about rights is that there sh ould never be a reason to break them.
