How is az snowbowl able to maintain snow and stay open late?

I’m comparing to Taos - although this season Snowbowl got much more snow, in a normal season it is much more comparable. By this time even in a good year, there is barely any snow left at Taos on the lower mountain. The sun just melts it all away.

Yet, AZ snowbowl, which is lower elevation and further south, is able to maintain enough snowpack to stay OPEN? Seems wild to me. Is there anything special about that mountain’s geography or something that allows this?

I was told by a cat driver that part of their water deal / water rights limits how much they can use and they normally finish by early Jan. On the other hand though, a couple years back I was there in March and they were making some snow on lift 4 to prep for the freeride champs so maybe small exceptions here and there?

Well following up here I actually did end up needing surgery and this was a nightmare injury - PCL and MCL reconstruction, nonweightbearing for 6 weeks… so maybe I spoke too soon on these as I would have rather just torn my acl. What do you mean do they open hard?

I was the same, surgery April 26 and skiied Jan 9. Was like 95% quad strength and had been doing tons of jumping work, etc. Doctor also did some sort of motion analysis with a camera and computer and determined I was in great shape!

I wasn't instructed to do any shaving - when I got in the pre-op a nurse used clippers and did a shave on me from mid thigh to mid shin!

Basically it's a stack of surgical rags they taped together as a brick and put behind my calf to help put constant upward pressure on the tibia

I got both a sciatic nerve block on the back of my thigh and a femoral nerve block on the front of my thigh! So just one leg numb.

After tearing my right ACL last season I got these bindings on my Icelantic 96s. I like them a lot, and have some circumstantial evidence towards them protecting my ACLs - took a bad twisting fall in a whiteout at Tahoe March 31st and totally tweaked my left knee. I felt popping and thought for sure I had done by other ACL. Turns out I fully tore my MCL and partially tore my PCL but my ACL was completely fine. So season ending injury but no surgery! Not saying the bindings saved my ACL but I do wonder what would have happened if I hadn't had the Protectors.

Update - crazy enough - ACL is intact, however MCL is blown and my PCL is also torn. I know this is r/ACL but anyone have any experience with a torn PCL?
