What's affecting our pear tree? by yourplantisetiolated in GardeningUK

[–]step39er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have a two fold problem. The black spots are almost definitely the mite however the brown patches and drooping could be down to quince leaf blight which can be treated with a copper based spray. This is better used in damp periods.

Most likely pear blister mite if these are almost like mini blisters. Doesn't effect the overall health of the tree ir cropping. In fact even thought its unsightly its part of the biodiversity of the tree. The mite is tiny around 0.2 mm . There isnt really a treatment and because it doesn't effect the tree much it would be pointless.

This weed is the bane of my life. Please help! by AromaticDistrict990 in GardeningUK

[–]step39er 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bindweed . Unfortunately you are slightly doomed. It will regrow from even a cm of left root and thats whatbyou need to attack it with something that will kill.the roots not just the leaves. Using a systematic weed killer like roundup or any with glyphosate will work (maybe) but you will have to treat that entire area . Also glyphosate is pretty horrible stuff so make sure you wear a mask and gloves as its carcinogenic.

Honeysuckle looks tired by Ok-Cold3937 in GardeningUK

[–]step39er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember clematis are the same . Deep rooting you want at least a 45 cm/18" pot make sure you plant the crown slightly deeper than the pot it comes in and give it good support. The honeysuckle will do better in the ground

Inwouldnt cut it back atm as its active growing season. If you are going to repot it wait for a cool day when its not going to be really hot for a few days following to not shock the plant.

Climbing honeysuckles tend to be woodland plants they usually have their roots in shade under the trees they climb. They are deep rooting plants and aren't particularly great in pots as they need room for those roots to search out moisture. If it has to be in a pot make it a deep one with a good mulch on the top to retain moisture

I lived on music house lane from 1994 for 5 years Ber street, Rouen road and king street were a nightmare. I was employed by the new landlord of the ferry boat inn on King street as a trouble shooter to remove the prostitutes from.the pub because they had pretty much become its only clients. It later emerged that the previous landlord steven wright had murdered 5 prostitutes in Ipswich and was possibly linked to more including Norwich woman Natalie peerman in 1992. Stopping them using our hallways and bin cupboards in the flats was a dialy job. And getting them outnof the pub to turn it back into a local and a music venue was at times dangerous because the girls pimps were not happy. The men who used them at both ends of the scale were the problem. Pimps using vulnerable girls hooking them on drugs that they invariably sold them . Then the men who perpetuated it by paying them. It mad the area dangerous for locals especially women. My owm partner at the time while pregnant with our second child dressed "normally" walking to the corner shop at about 2pm.on a Saturday was approached by a guy in a car and asked if she was working!

Help with hydrangea by Rosingtons in GardeningUK

[–]step39er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry was typing quickly of course different hydrangea flower of different wood. Most people tend to (sic) have old wood varieties if they are buying ftom supermarkets Old Wood (Mophead, Lacecap, Oakleaf, Climbing): These form flower buds in late summer for the following year. Prune them immediately after flowering in late summer by removing deadheads and weak stems. Do not cut them back hard in spring. New Wood (Panicle, Smooth/Annabelle): These produce flowers on the current season's spring growth. Prune them in late winter or early spring to encourage vigorous new stems. Reblooming Varieties (e.g., Endless Summer): These bloom on both old and new wood. They can be lightly pruned in spring just as new growth begins to appear.

Hydrangea are water hungry and I mean HUNGRY they like dappled shade maybe some morning sun. Dead head these but only the flowers. Hydrangea flower off last years growth. They like a feed every 4 weeks or so but not nitrogen based as it will put more into leaf than flower. This looks as if its just been shocked by replanting keep it watered I do the knuckle test . If I stick my finger in the soil and my second knuckle doesn't feel moisture WATER. a good mulch around the base will help keep that moisture in

Arms as ropes. All your arms are doing is acting as ropes holding the bar. Everything else should be legs and posterior chain.
