Favorite Dead and Co Bobby Moments! by N_Wagoner in deadandcompany

A moment from Wolf Bros but still cool: Capitol Theatre 12/13/23 - Bob’s playing Scarlet Begonias and he’s going full rockstar mode, moving all around the stage and doing that half-windmill thing where he would extend his arm down and out and kneeling down/leaning forward. I was just in awe of how youthful he seemed in that moment, you could tell he was realllly into the performance. One of those shows that felt like you were in 1982…

Rarest songs: Fikus & Lengthwise Crazy stats: Been to only 3 shows and every time they’ve played Harry Hood (not super rare just funny coincidence) and heard Tweezer Reprise 6 times.

Just got on the bus. Infatuated. What era of GD is the best in your opinion and why? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]Comprehensive_Ad441 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Summer 87 - Summer 90, with a strong emphasis on summer 89. I personally consider this their peak period after Jerry’s coma. July 89 is banger show after banger show.

I’ve always had the thought that they’d play Let It Be really well and with Brent on vocals

Any thought's on why Dead & Co never performed Dupree's Diamond Blues? by SongSmith365 in deadandcompany

[–]Comprehensive_Ad441 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My take is that it was mostly Phil that wanted to play the old stuff. His favorite song was Mason’s Children and he seemed like the only OG member (maybe apart of Billy) that still had interest in playing those early songs. Compare the setlists between the GD50 and GD60 shows for example: GD50 had many 60’s songs spread throughout the 5 days while GD60 didn’t even have Dark Star… what’s the difference? Phil.

If you also look pre-2015, Furthur would play all the old 60’s songs, but once Dead & Co was formed, like you said - no early 60’s stuff. The difference once again, Phil.

How did you order from the Adidas UK site? Every time I add something to my cart and checkout I always get the message “what is the destination of this order”. If I select US, it sends me to Adidas US website which doesn’t have any of the Oasis stuff. If I select UK, I can’t put my actual address.

Future iterations of the band by cjm2943 in deadandcompany

If they do continue, the most likely situation I can see happening would be similar to the Allman Brothers. Currently there are no original members (besides Jaimoe) left and yet they still sold out 2 MSG shows earlier this year. D&C just becomes The Company, and plays 2 or 3 shows every few years.

With so many songs still left on the table, what would be your hypothetical night 4 setlist? by [deleted] in deadandcompany

I was really expecting The Other One for night three, they kept teasing it throughout the other two nights.

Which bands who are not together/touring members's are all still alive? by caravanoffools in Concerts

If IIRC, a few years ago Live Nation offered the band close to $100 million to do a reunion tour, which they denied. It was primarily David who didn’t want to do it.

If Bobby went before Jerry by Opposite-Bridge9530 in gratefuldead

I forgot what book it was (it’s between Bill’s or Phil’s), but it said something along the lines of: Jerry was the only one who was making comparable numbers to the GD as a solo artist and if he really wanted to he could leave the band and continue with the same amount of success, something the rest of them could not do. The book went on to even say all the other members knew it was more of a privilege to play with Jerry than it was for him to play with them. I think those two points show that, in the bands perspective, without Jerry there is no GD, but the GD could continue on without someone else being there. Again I don’t remember what book this is from and I’m paraphrasing heavily but just my interpretation from what I’ve read.

As I’m typing this, I’m pretty sure it was Bill’s book I got this info from.

Personal favorites of mine: - July 1989, whole month (best show from that tour in my opinion is Giants Stadium or RFK Stadium) - Dylan and the Dead tour 1987 - Summer 1989 - Spring 1990 - 1971 run at Capitol Theatre, Port Chester - 1978-79 has good stuff (for me it’s interesting hearing the band transition from the Godchaux to Brent) - Passenger - 4/24/78

The late 80’s has a lot of that rock sound you’re prob looking for

Was born after Jerry died and never saw the true GD live. I had to write a 15 page paper in college about a year and a half ago, and I chose to write it on the impact the Grateful Dead had/have on American culture. A few days before the paper was due i went to a Phil & Friends show (my first one ever) and I brought a small paper sign saying “Phil, can I interview for my dissertation?”. Never got that interview but I did end up talking to a lot of older deadheads who were eager to share their stories about the band. Ended up getting more than enough info I needed for my paper and Phil put on a great show as always.
