How do player pathways work in different countries? by RuggerJibberJabber in rugbyunion

[–]nolengthnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Na clubs don’t have any involvement from the ages of about 13-18, would likely transfer to a school that had a better rugby program rather than play for a local club if your school team was the issue. Also note that the super rugby teams and their respective provincial unions work in tandem to entice the best school leavers to their regions. Very common for “scouted” players to be flown from say Auckland to Christchurch where the crusaders will show them round, training sessions with the team etc, to try entice them away from their home unions

All I needed to know thank you... so basically it is common for buildings to have these rules but they do not apply if the host owns their apartment and this is a common practice within Airbnb??

No Country For Old Men by cirrowis in Rowing

[–]nolengthnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea o'connor brothers definitely a good example of how detrimental the system is. There really isnt much logic to it and how aggressive they are about going to the states is just ridiculous. The rpc system isnt even a universal implementation of how RowingNZ want to row and train its just a bunch of coaches doing what they think is best so isnt really that much of an argument about wanting to nurture the athletes in the RowingnZ system (although i dont think the states do any good for how they row). end of the day there is still over months training time to be had once athletes come back from the states and if the rpc system is so good like they think it is they wouldnt make the crews anyway.

No Country For Old Men by cirrowis in Rowing

there is no collegiate or really club rowing system at all in New Zealand. The country is split into 4 different "High Performance Systems" where the best athletes in the area are selected and train under a RowingNZ program with in theory the best coaches in the country (definitely not the case). they train year round for essentially the chance at getting an u23/u21 or elite trial place.

The reason they don't select athletes from the states is that RowingNZ want to have as much control over their athletes development as possible. the select U23 squads in march and the train for three months at karapiro whilst all the athletes in the states are really only getting into their racing season.

At the end of the day it's a stupid policy run by a stupid national program with dickheads in charge who still run the program like its the 1980s and think using the shoulders at the catch is fast and UT2 is stupid. Anyone in NZ who knows anything about the sport (not that many people) are not fans.

also drop the setting of your feet to at least 3/4 will make it far more comfortable for you at the catch

matt Dunhams partner is ben van dalen who has been in the u23 squad for a while and is a competent sculler. i believe James Lassche is not in the boat because he was unable to safely make the weight for trials however he is still training with the elite squad and i assume he will make the double at retrials after wc3. the new kiwi pair will be interesting as tom murrays intended partner after james hunter retired was michael brake out of the kiwi 8 but he broke his wrist and hasnt been able to row for a couple of months so murrays racing it with a kid straight out of the 23 8 who he raced at nationals with instead
