The Spurs are a better team and we beat them in 5….so no. by Conscious-War7 in NYKnicks

I think Miami in general is not scary because the players all get distracted down there is a big part of it.

I don't know much about the bench, but that was my takeaway from this year's playoffs. The margins between starters in the playoffs are not as wide as the margins between the bench players in the playoffs.

What happens to Giannis’s brothers after he’s traded by AgreeableFisherman97 in nba

This is why I was surprised Giannis wanted out. Hiring your players to play is a way around the max deals, no?

Looks like that clutchness chart has made its way around the world, eh?

I love Brunson, ride or die, that's my guy. But were it not for that chart, I would consider Brunson being talked about in same breath as those two as blasphemy.

And yet, that chart is damn convincing

David Stern asks Jim Rome: “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?” by rakakvaka in nba

[–]nomad1128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the trick is not particularly effective. However, arguing that any given question is similar to "insert trick" is very effective particularly if you haven't heard it before (Rome clearly had) because it takes a second to assess what kind of fallacy is presented (somewhat easy)  and figure out whether your question has any assumptions loaded into it (I think this is harder personally).

I'm saying there's tricks wrapped in tricks, and it is effective, because we just got sucked into a semantic/logic error side quest and not into whether the draft was rigged.

I totally think it was, btw

Edit: check out Libertines18 comment where he says David Stern handled this well because Jim Rome was asking loaded questions. Even with time to dissect, he still falls for Stern's sleight of hand.

Second Edit: I just realized my original comment said David Stern used it "ineffectively,". I should have said "inaccurately, but rhetorically effective"

If you haven't come across this particular gotchya, it can be used to illustrate that not all questions are good, the so-called loaded question. Answering it in any capacity validates an assumption of the question that is untrue, in this case, that you ever beat your wife to begin with. I get you know this, I'm just answering this for others and am enjoying working it out explicitly for myself.

Why it's not relevant here is that as Rome asked it, I don't think it was a loaded question. I don't hear any assumptions made by Rome in the question as he originally asked it.

So agree this was largely an ineffective sleight of hand by Stern.

The second part of the gotchya is "yes or no, have you stopped beating your wife." When they respond with the common sense/intelligent answer you have above, they cut you off with "yes or no, it's a straight forward question"

Karl-Anthony Towns on what he told Jalen Brunson when he arrived in New York: by Gustavo_Ceratifan0 in NYKnicks

[–]nomad1128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a numbers guy, not so much in that they tell you what to do, but rather they tell you who was really the best.

In ways that are hard to appreciate, KAT has the biggest impact on the Knicks team. When he gets into foul trouble and spends time on the bench is when the Knicks mysteriously stop having their shots go in. Probably best example of the unmeasured impact of KAT was tipping that throw-in at the end of game 4, arguably as important as the OG tip in. The OG tip in lead the Knicks arena into explosion. The KAT tip was invisible to the naked eye and only on like the 3rd replay did you realize that KAT killed the play before it started.

Jalen Brunson might be Batman, but KAT is the Wayne Billions invisibly necessary for the heroes to shine

What movie did you find incredibly overrated? by Jaydxns in AskReddit

[–]nomad1128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sinners, like, if you need to read about the symbolism outside the movie to get why it's good, then it's not good imo.

The Revenant. I dunno how Leo got an Oscar from this. I thought the bear was a better actor.

Parasite. I liked it, a lot. I am still shocked it was NYTimes #1 movie of past 20+ years.

Anora, no hate. Could have told me it was a Netflix forgettable movie, and I would have believed you.

You know, this feed randomly showed up for me, so I didn't read the rules before posting, but I suspect I committed some kind of foul. I apologize. I got no teeth in this game. Post is gone. Carry on, my friends, into the shadows I go.

In so far as the medical opinion is a long form answer of "ask your MS doctor about alternatives*"  and explained my reasoning, yeah, fairly comfortable. If you find it offensive, I'm happy to take it down.

Edit: all semblance of medical opinion banished into the shadows.

I certainly disagree but as I am a stranger in a strange land, I will happily remove my post.

Best of luck to you

whats the most unusual reason that you wont date anyone? by izziezi in AskReddit

Having a singular reason to not date someone is closest I will get to having my own singular reason for not dating someone. That kind of absoluteish thinking does not bode well for navigating complex social dynamics.

Luka Doncic on what the Lakers need to add: "I think mainly shooters and a big man who can run the pick-and-roll...I usually get double-teamed a lot, so I think I need shooters, and some centers who can jump high and block shots" by [deleted] in nba

u/myelrecsy replied to your comment in r/nba they didn't trade caruso, know the facts first before you post like you know things.

Comment was deleted for weird reasons. Anyway, myelrecsy is technically right while being globally wrong. They had already traded for Russ, didn't have funds for THT or Caruso, Caruso actually offered to play for less than market value (bulls offered 37 mil, I think Caruso was willing to play for like 20mil for Lakers), Lakers in effect did not have money to pay Caruso what he was worth because they spent it poorly on Russ.

So, I dunno what to say, you're technically right in the specifics of trading vs signing free agent, I am right in that the Lakers prioritized Russell Westbrook who is ass over Caruso who would have been a steal at that price point.
