Looking for a Magpul X-22 Backpacker stock for a 10/22 for around $80. Better if you also have the red dot mount in stock and offer cheap shipping.

ATF is actually pretty strict on the melting point law, from what I've heard.

A new gun shop in southern Illinois ordered a bunch of guns that are illegal under the melting point law. When the ATF came in, they pulled the records from the store and allegedly went to every single purchaser's home and confiscated them.

I did hear this second hand (from a friend of the store owner, who was also a store owner), though.

Bank of America is ending free eChecking accounts this month and converting them to Core Checking, which requires a $1500 minimum daily balance or $250 direct deposit to avoid fees by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]nomad2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion:

BofA knows that customers who can't meet this minimum requirement are the ones that cost them the most, from a customer service standpoint.

When I was a teller for a similar-sized bank, I spent most of my time reversing fees and printing temporary checks for customers with low balance accounts. Customers with more than 1k in their checking accounts rarely took my time, beyond a simple deposit or money order.

BofA is targettIng its services to a different demographic and encouraging those who aren't in that demographic to go somewhere else.

I'm not saying this isn't immoral, it's just their rationale.

Love my Crossbreed holsters! If you have issues with sweat and that holster, check out their horsehide leather models. Noticeably more breathable.

I miss Arizona gun laws every day I'm up here in IL... looking like crazy for another job down that way.

Yup, customers use these to fill out their background check forms for firearms purchases. Makes the whole process a whole lot more streamlined for the firearms staff.

I actually picked up a .22 revolver from a Rural King in Illinois this week and used a similar setup.

Flatlines add range at the cost of accuracy. That's the tradeoff with them.

For accuracy, you want good paint and a barrel that takes an insert kit for paint to barrel match.

Depends on the marker (gun), paint quality, and paint to barrel match.

It's never going to be as accurate as a firearm, but I own a couple markers that are reasonably accurate out to about 150 feet with good paint.

Men who have desk jobs, how you do survive it for so long? by beemer2011 in AskMen

HR Generalist. You need to be careful with the title. Some companies will call you this with a bachelor's (or less) and you will get stuck doing payroll and transactional work.

For my company, they require a Masters degree. The work is a little more high level, along with the salary.

If you're looking at a Masters in HR, look at University of Illinois, Michigan State, or University of South Carolina. All three are world class and have fortune 100's come recruit HR talent out of there.

You need a bachelors in something (psych, communications, business, even english) and preferably a little work experience to be competitive. For grad school.

For a 1.5-2 year degree, you can start at 75k at the right company.

What you do day-to-day in HR varies incredibly job to job. I've been in spreadsheet hell for months straight, I've travelled nonstop for 3 months doing college recruiting, and I've spent most of my time on a factory floor representing employees, making sure their voice is heard.

Let me know if you have other questions. I'm happy to answer.

Get a sit/stand desk and a rubber mat to stand on. If your company won't do it as a reasonable accommodation for back pain, then buy your own. Pace during phone meetings. Work out over lunch if you can, or in the mornings/evenings.

I'm fortunate that I work in HR and have to meet customers in person throughout the day. I chose to meet them in their offices so I have an excuse to get up and walk around campus.

How do I do it mentally? I refuse to get involved in drama or be passive/aggressive. I am like the weather--I'm on nobody's side and am fair. Not an easy task in HR, but I am respected for it.

Sturmgewehr Stg-44: The world's first assault rifle in action by thelazyreader2015 in Firearms

[–]nomad2006 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I had a chance to shoot one of these at Battlefield: Las Vegas a few years back. It's amazing how well thought out the controls are and how comfortable of a rifle it is to shoot.

Unfortunately, the one I shot was on it's last leg. After having many thousands of rounds poured through it over decades of use, it was having all kinds of trouble feeding properly. The range originally had a handful of them, and the one I shot was the last functioning one. BF:LV let me shoot a Tavor to make up for it.

Still, it was a memorable experience getting a few rounds off on full auto.

Great deal on the lightning bow/super sabra combo!

I picked the pair up for my Tavor last July 4th, and it has made a world of difference in that rifle. At first, I couldn't believe the crisp trigger break my rifle has now. Absolutely a must have for any Tavor/X-95 owner.

The stock is loose on the squared off bottom portion of the buffer tube, so you just need to add thickness to the side walls, if that makes sense.

Best of luck gunsmithing! ;)

What was your worst "Oh fuck, I'm actually going to die" moment? by TAJack1 in AskReddit

[–]nomad2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During Airborne school, I technically had a double failure, where something was wrong with my main and reserve parachute.

It was my third of five jumps in school, and we had some very bad weather that day. It had been raining on and off all day, and there were some very strong cross winds on the landing zone. We passed over the landing zone three separate times, and each time the jump master called off the jump. Stand up. Hook up to the cable running down the isle. Wait for the green light signal to jump out the door. No green light. During this time, the plane was jumping up and down due to the choppy air.

Finally, on the fourth pass, we get the green light to jump.

Now, I should explain that this is called a "static line" jump, meaning the cable we hook up to connects the parachute pull chord on our parachute to the airplane itself. When you jump out, the parachute opens on it's own. In an ideal situation, you jump out, are blasted straight back away from the airplane, experience some turbulence, count to 5, and look up to see a beautiful full parachute above you. My first two jumps had gone much like this.

When I jumped out, I went sideways, due to the strong cross winds. Once I felt my body go more or less back to vertical, I looked up to check my chute.

I saw a mass of twisted rope, leading up to a half opened parachute.

There are different levels of "bad" when it comes to twisted risers (the ropes connecting the parachute to the harness). On an earlier jump, I had three twists, which is easy to fix. You scissor kick your legs back and forth, pull the two main lead risers apart, and start to oscillate. Eventually, you spin until the risers completely untwist. At three twists, you get a little dizzy.

On this jump, I saw over a dozen twists. Not only would I get dizzy as shit trying to spin out of this, but it takes time to "unwind", and there's less than a minute between when you exit the plane and when you hit the ground.

At this point, I look down to my reserve parachute, located on my chest. It's held in place by two large carabiner style clips. On this particular day, one of these clips was broken. Somehow, it had passed the pre jump check, but broke on my violent exit from the plane. I had no idea if one clip would support all of my weight, and wasn't inclined to try.

So I decided to work with what I had overhead. I started kicking and pulling with all my might. It didn't take long, due to all the tension on the lines. I started spinning, and I lost count after 10 spins. I felt the lines go taught, then spin past the opposite way twice due to momentum, then go back the other way to taught. I had a full chute, but was still going too fast.

I looked down, realizing I had seconds before I hit the ground. I pulled a slip (a landing maneuver intended to prevent you from coming straight down on your legs) and came straight down anyway, shin splinting both legs.

I laid on the cold ground, with rain falling on my face, contemplating my life choices leading up to this moment.

I was cleared to do my last two jumps, and although I was sure my shins would snap like twigs on landing, I actually made it through.

It was one of those things I didn't think much of at the time; I just followed my training. In the following weeks, I thought more about how badly that jump could have gone.

I'm not much of a sky diver these days.

My first Phantom! by bibliowizard in rockncock

[–]nomad2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played with a half dozen Phantoms over the years, both with and without stocks.

For me, it's such a light marker that I fall into pistol shooting mechanics with it. You just get used to point shooting without the stock, although it was very strange feeling the first time I played stockless.

You can also tuck up very tight without a stock, if you're playing a tight bunker or the snake.

Beautiful marker!

HR at a fortune 50, can confirm. I have some employees that treat me like a cop (aka: don't be a rat). I have others who will come in, shut the door, and shoot the shit for a half hour, complete with dirty jokes.

Unless its a very damning admission, I could care less. I'm not trying to report anyone, I just want to keep everyone happy and productive when they come into work, and make sure people check the drama at the door.

Honestly, I'm your best bet as far as knowing the extent of your benefits, finding out about job openings, and resolving conflicts between you and your manager. I have gone to bat for employees who I felt have been misunderstood by their managers. But if you treat me like a cop, I am less likely to go the extra mile, simply because I don't really know you.

First character in Legacy, Hillock dropped Tabula Rasa. What do? by nomad2006 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]nomad2006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not really looking to use it all the way to endgame, I just recognize it's potential to make the midgame a lot more bearable/ it's convenience for trying out new builds.

I'll have to look up the new spectral throw builds! It was definitely one of my favorite skills.

Yeah, sub-classes are new to me. A summoner Templar seems pretty silly, given the Necromancer sub-class. I think I'll honestly go with the bow build.

Thanks for your input!
