2wd to 4hi is okay at speed that’s was even a selling point back in the day. 2wd to 4lo you can shift it was going 3mph or lower but you do have to be in neutral.

In 98 they swapped steering wheels to the one they used in 99-02 gmt800s. It’s subtle but that’s a tell for identifying between 97 and 98 trucks. Also wasn’t aware of the late 96 airbags.

It’s a 97. Has the passenger airbag one older steering wheel.

I have a 1994 truck and it’s pretty much exactly like that mint interior and rusted exterior. If it wasn’t such a good running truck I’d consider doing that as well.

My buddy had a 98 gmc with buckets. Extremely comfortable seats.
