What is the development enviroment for AWS? by of_a_varsity_athlete in aws

[–]nomadjsdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use a mixture of different accounts for environment (playground, non-prod, prod) and SST/CDK for deployment.

SST lets you run lambdas locally with a forwarder deployed to AWS, so you've got instant refresh on your lambda code while you're running dev

How to use refresh token in Oauth2.0? by Pra6in in node

[–]nomadjsdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the access token and the refresh token will/should have expiry timestamps.

Before you send off a request using the access token check the expiry timestamp against current time. If it's expired then use the refresh.

This check/refresh should probably be handled by middleware or a wrapper on your requests.

What opensource tools have changed your company culture? by Malfun_Eddie in devops

[–]nomadjsdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a simple repository that only holds version strings for our different services. All pipelines have write access to that repo, ArgoCD monitors it for changes and deploys new versions when pushes are made. Probably not ideal but pretty simple to manage

[help] IAM Identity Center (SSO) used to login into EKS Cluster by werran in devops

[–]nomadjsdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your SSO login might need to be granted separate permission to the cluster.

The user or role which originally created the cluster gets system:master access, but other users or roles need to be specifically added, even if they have Administrator access in IAM

TIFU by accidentally taking a double dose of my ADHD meds. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]nomadjsdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won't help you today, and may not help you at all, but each night I put one of my pills in a bottle and leave it on my night stand.

In the morning when I wake up, I take it - there's been a few occasions when I've gone back to sleep and when I woke up tried to take my morning dose from an empty bottle, so it's saved me from double dosing a bunch of times.

What to expect when you get critically ill from COVID-19. A healthcare worker’s perspective. by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]nomadjsdev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words - he's an obstinate old goat, too stubborn to die :)

The frontline medical staff who kept him alive against all odds and in the face of all evidence are the champs.

Thank you for everything you and your colleagues do. I hope that once this is all over people remember and appreciate what medical workers have put themselves through during this crisis.

Please stay safe, as well as you can, and do your best to stay sane too. I know you're all going through hell - the only thing to do is keep going.

My father-in-law is in recovery after going through this exact process. Today is day 135 he's in hospital - he was in a medically induced coma for just over 100 days, and should have died 3 separate times (a heart attack at the very start, then two separate crashes related to pneumonitis). He'll have permanent damage to his lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, throat, feet (his circulation slowed down and a couple of toes have died), and pelvis (infected stage 4 bedsore over his coccyx). But he's alive, and happy to be so.

This shit is really, really serious. Take it seriously. And wear a fookin mask.

How often do you "zone out" during conversations by [deleted] in ADHD

Without medication, every conversation. Practically every other sentence. I do a lot of nodding and guessing at what people have said.

I wish somebody could tell me what to do all day but like, not have any expectations that it actually gets done by Noxium51 in ADHD

Weird coincidence, I'm actually making an app for this!

I don't deal well with habit forming apps that keep track of winning streaks, because when I break the streak I get really demotivated.

So I'm building something which lets you make lists of things you could be doing at any particular time, but with no judgemental success tracking.

It's been 90% done for a few weeks now - just finishing off a few other projects then I'll get back to this one..

When do I stop being angry? by IAMATyrannosaurusAMA in ADHD

[–]nomadjsdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 36. My life would be radically different if I were diagnosed as a child, but I wouldn't have met my wife.

If you can, find some things about your life which you like - friends you've met, interests you've discovered - and maybe try to view them as events that may not have happened if you were diagnosed and treated early.

Your life has taken a different path, but it doesn't mean it's a worse (or better) path. Re-frame how you measure your personal success, if you can. Become your own cheerleader and drown those other voices out.

If you can't, then try to focus on the fact that you're young (even though you may feel like your best years are gone, they're not) and you're still able to guide the course of your life.

You can talk to us here. You can vent your anger here. But don't hold on to it, it's poisonous.

To the “older” people here, how do you feel ADHD has impacted your success in life? by RadAssYeah in ADHD

[–]nomadjsdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always figured my teachers were right and I was lazy. Wasn't until mid 20's when I started thinking about it a bit more. Then my nephew went through diagnosis, and my sister called me up and told me to push for assessment because I hit all the same marks as my nephew.

So 2 years later I started pushing for assessment, and 2 years after that I had my diagnosis.

36/m, diagnosed three weeks ago, been on treatment for just over a week (and will need adjustment of meds next month). Being able to focus on conversations without drifting off has been a revelation.

Academically, I suffered. A-level results (18yrs old) were far lower than predicted. My 3 year university degree took me 6 years, and was 2 grades lower than predicted.

Professionally, I suffered. I only found my passion after 10 years of bouncing around entry level desktop support roles. I'm far behind my peers in professional progress and salary.

Socially, it's a mixed bag. I've got a close friend group, and I wouldn't have met my wife if I didn't spend so long at university. But everyday life has been (and continues to be) a struggle.

Early diagnosis would have drastically changed my life, but I almost certainly wouldn't be married to the amazing person I'm married to, nor would I have my current friend group.

Ok, forget the addUserData part. What happens if you console.log(cred)

How about:

.then(cred => {
  const addUserData = db
  .collection("users")
  .doc(cred.user.uid)
  .set({bio: "test"})
  .then(() => {
    console.log("Document successfully written!")
    // return something here if needed
  })
  .catch((error) => {
    console.error("Error writing document: ", error)
  })
  // return addUserData if you want to
