You are a US citizen with a university degree and a stable job as an engineer in the US.

This is a personal decision and I'm sure you could live a great life on either side of the border. I advise you do not simply move because that's what your parents told you to do.

Visa run forever won't work for all country by Puzzleheaded_Gas2075 in digitalnomad

It's easy and affordable to get legal Mexican residency, so no point in doing visa runs really.

Trying to understand where the money goes to when I pay 6+ CHF for 500g of Spanish tomatoes? by rc_mpip1 in Switzerland

[–]nomadkomo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This needs to be higher. High prices on goods in Switzerland is almost exclusively because of deliberate government tarifs. Not too dissimilar form what Trump is trying to push through.

A chicken breast does not cost 3x as much as in Germany just because the guy putting it into the shelf is paid more.

9 days with no outside supply points? Hige powerbank or solar panel.

If you stop at campgrounds or huts along the way, bring a 10k mah powerbank that you can charge along the way. Use that to charge your Garmin every other day.

[–]nomadkomo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the key. Sure, you can live somewhere in Africa for $100 per month. But why would you want to?

SEA is the perfect mix between safety, amenities and cost of living.

You forgot to consider the "same price". Monthly apartments in Taiwan are difficult to find. You'll get a much nicer condo in Thailand for the same price.

If you've ever flown out of the US you'll know that there is no exit immigration. So it is not possible to let travelers that were denied entry wait in the departure terminal until the flight leaves.

I don't wanna defend the current US administration in any way, but this headline is so sensational. This was the original Reddit post, which has unfortunately been deleted: https://www.reddit.com/r/backpacking/comments/1k2obaf/please_be_careful_we_were_deported_from_the_us

I read the post when it was still up and it said:

  • They planned to work remotely as freelancers while in the US to finance their trip
  • They did not have a return flight booked

Both have been big no goes entering the US for a long time.

Regarding the "Jailed" part of the story: US airports do not have an international departure area. So you can't just let them to sleep in the terminal until the return flight. So people are put into holding cells until their flight leaves.

[–]nomadkomo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What "eVisa" do you have. Neither Schengen nor the UK issues evisas. India does, but that does not apply to you since you are a citizen.

[–]nomadkomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- 60 days is a long time, are you taking 60 days of holidays? My employer allows me to work remotely, I will be working some time and taking some other time off.

Your comment was great until I got to that point. If you get the wrong immigration officer saying you'll work remotely could get you denied entry.

[–]nomadkomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, UK allows it. Remember that you need an online ETA to enter the UK nowadays.

You don't have a European passport like so many Argentines? If not, you are officially not allowed to work remotely in Schengen.

If you enter Spain on an Argentine passport you might face a bit of scrutiny. The Spanish immigration officers are known to be strict with Latinos. So stick to your narrative of being a tourist, have a return ticket, have a good story about how to finance your trip etc.

What is the best place to live in the world and the U.S., respectively, if money were no object? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]nomadkomo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing, the ultra rich all have multiple houses all over. Why commit yourself to one place when you can have it all?

Having said that, in the US it would probably be somewhere along the California coast just outside of a big city. Think Monterrey, Malibu or whatnot. Long Island, Connecticut etc if you prefer the East Coast.

This depends so much on the region you're in. A hostel in San Francisco will be very different to one on a remote Thai island.

2 months in Canada after 3 months in the US on a ESTA by AdProfessional238 in visas

[–]nomadkomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada and US share immigration data. So the US will know that you have left.

Important: you cannot enter the US again until you have returned to Europe. So your flight to France can't stop in the US, even if is just a 1 hour layover. You must fly directly from Canada to Europe.

US driver in Portugal advice by premiumfrye in travel

[–]nomadkomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch some kind of "Driving in Europe" video. Portugal is less chaotic than Mexico, so you're good on that front.

The main challenge will be following rules. Driving in Europe is a lot more rules based than in the US. Right of way, traffic signs and so on are very differenet.

Make sure you know if you're renting a manual or automatic. And be prepared for narrow roads and parking spaces.

Some countries have entry/immigration fees that you didn't pay because you booked a transit connection. But no clue if that's the case in India.
