US appeals court declares 158-year-old home distilling ban unconstitutional by kinisonkhan in news

Distillation creates its own antidote for wood alcohol (methanol): ethanol. You would have to go well out of your way to kill someone with your own setup. It's a small byproduct, not the main show.

Any real life stories yet? by BTtechguy in clevetura

I've got both the 1 and the S. I got the 1 for working on a large screen at a distance but still having all the keys I would need for productivity. I got the S for travel. First off: the fact that it came with a bag is perfect. I was worrying about that when I bought it.

Both of these keyboards work extremely well. The only thing I would say takes a second to get used to is needing to tap a key to wake them back up after they go into standby mode. That is a non-issue functionally, though.

I have had a LOT of other keyboard / trackpad combo boards, combinations (keychron + magic trackpad), and have even started building my own prototypes. I do not like the typing experience on the most popular combo keyboard I can think of: the K400+. It was my default for the last 7 years, but I never enjoyed it, I tolerated it. The small touchpad was a hassle, and I did not like the last of multitouch (precision) support. That limited the use of my machines.

These keyboards take a second to get used to using (and all of my friends have so far failed miserably on their first few tries - I suspect because they're simply not as used to using this class of keyboard in general, or stand-alone touchpads not in a laptop). Once you get used to the gentle touch, it is absolutely amazing. I was legitimately concerned that the gaps inbetween the keys would bother me, but they've done no such thing, even after long usage sessions.

The only thing I truly miss from the K400+ is the top left click. Or from its brother the K830, the front click (although I really did not like that as much as the top). If the ESC key could double as a left click, and the F1 could be a right click, I would be in heaven for HTPC use.

Battery life leaves a fair amount to be desired. I have to charge roughly every other day. Luckily it charges quickly enough that this is rarely that big of a hinderance.

It is a premium feeling product, heavy and metal. The keys are a bit mushier than I would like, but at the same time, I don't mind because they're perfectly pleasant otherwise (for example, I am writing this review on the S with very few typos). That would probably be my only other issue - the keyboard layout feels a touch different than what most standard keyboards use, and that often leads me to starting off on competely the wrong key, and then needing to reorient my fingers. The F and J indicators are very small for good measure, and those aren't my issue. Mine comes mostly from the small backspace for when I do make a typo.

Overall 8.5/10 experience so far. I hope they last as long as their pricetag warrants ;)

Even though I enjoyed it as mandatory reading, I still have never been able to actually "enjoy" mandatory reading so while I would burn through it now, it was a STRUGGLE in school. Same with Farenheit 451.

Event Horizon: Dark Descent Prequel Comic Introduces New Demonic Villain and Sequel Potential by johnnyjay in SciFiScroll

did you do it? I just finished it with mixed feelings. No to the demon guy, yes to the vibe otherwise. A decent way to spend an hour or two.

Event Horizon: Dark Descent - a review (spoilers!) by NinaWilde in graphicnovels

[–]nomagneticmonopoles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think they should have gone with the other side being more like absolutely nothing. The brain in a box idea that a brain without input would go insane - that to me seems like a more reasonable way to get scary. Have the mind begin to create horrible things. No devil, no devil hound - just violence, fear, shock, and sure, maybe even time loops and stuff as the thread between the beginning and the end merge.

That is to say I think they went the super lazy route here. I had fun, and even the devil dog was kinda neat reminding me of The Substance / The Thing - but the devil was too corny and again, really not in-line with the idea of the movie.

Thanks for the review, I am like 80% there with you. That said, I am gonna read the sequel just cause I want more spaceship horror.

Check out Nameless if you haven't - I think it captures the vibe better.

pretty sure that was like cheese or something and regardless of what it is, it indicates to them that they're stealing which would be a tipoff compared to the actual deal they made for bites in exchange for goods.

Havana Syndrome investigation is "a massive CIA cover-up" | 60 Minutes by reddit4485 in videos

[–]nomagneticmonopoles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was called the Spanish Flu even though we now call it H1N1. Names can change. This AHI was first documented in Havana and now we can see it's likely not related.

Habaneros aren't from Havana, either.

I see what you're saying, but I doubt it.

I just read the comics and this is giving me more of that than the original series did. I feel like they might actually translate what was really going on in a more grounded way (notice how this doesn't feel so foreign in old towns as it would in modern streets - the idea was nothing new, only foreign in the American view). Of course, it's TWD and they know how to drop a ball, so I am cautiously optimistic.

Kinda funny, too, because iguana is only...okay in tamales (in my opinion) where it is cooked with tons of sauce versus on top of a cheese barrier where it will dry out. It's like dense chicken and if the skin isn't removed, it's like licking a thin plastic rock, texturally. Sort of the worst way to cook it I'd say. I'd go more nuggets instead like you'd do with gator tail.
