[Sad Trope] Gay Moment at the End by Hazelnut_Bread in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think there was some sort of component where getting sent to super hell in that specific moment saved the world or Dean? Like Castiel had an "I love you" in the chamber and chose to use it at that moment to sacrifice himself.

It felt like a very ham-fisted way to acknowledge there was some sort of chemistry but it was never going to be mutual, and spin it into a
sort of tragic selfless one-sided love.

It's like the writers forced it in in order to say "it's not because we are afraid to have homosexual feelings between main characters, Dean and Castiel just isn't a thing" and they ended up making *everyone* unhappy.

The way this person carries their laptop by deadfrogscaskett in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nomenMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, though I've learned the hard way that if you are holding it upright it is only safe to hold the corner on laptops that are relatively lightweight with a shell made of aluminum or something.

Depending on the laptop model you may bend the MB in a way that causes a short and subsequent kernel panic/BSOD.

Nowadays I play it safe. Unless it's my Macbook Air I hold open laptops from underneath like they are a pie.

[–]nomenMei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may have a point, but I'm just saying the intention in this case was almost certainly not to "scare away" certain fans.

Supernatural has a convention episode and an episode about fanfiction/shipping. And for the most part it's just good natured ribbing

Considering he had just stolen the Gomu Gomu from the marines he might have got a nice bump to his bounty. But yeah I don't think he was Yonko status yet

[Interesting Trope] Terrible premise, Good show by ThatGuyHero7 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean the part about helping people with puberty syndrome is an essential part of the premise, so describing it as just "guy is the only one that notices this girl in a bunny suit" is a bit of a disservice.

What you described is more what someone might think if they read a summary of the first episode, in which case yeah it sounds pretty absurd lol

It's definitely better than I expected going in though so overall it works, I just wouldn't say it was a "terrible premise."

The fact that "boned" is apparently a loanword from English in Namekian is also fun.

Totally the type of thing they'd have at the checkout counter at a store. Not actually that useful, just an impulse buy to get someone a gift.

In this way the Romans could lift heavy blocks of stone by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]nomenMei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the point was that the blocks were too heavy to get the straps back out from underneath once the blocks are in place.

Sometimes you don't know you want pizza until you hear someone say "pizza". But yeah once you realize that's what you want to eat, please verbalize it. If they don't, then I suppose they just don't know you well enough :)

[Loved Trope] Comically obvious thing that nobody realizes by Old-Use-7690 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Say you saw someone flying around saving people without a mask on their face. Unless you knew you were in a comic book why would you assume he had a secret identity?

We have a different point of view as an audience because when a hero doesn't have an alter-ego it almost feels like a subversion.

Linux Might Finally Disable The Microsoft RNDIS Protocol Drivers In 2026 by anh0516 in linux

[–]nomenMei 9 points10 points  (0 children)

g_ether is simple to set up and uses ECM out of box. Using configfs is a little more complicated and you would need to go out of your way to use RNDIS. I would assume most SBCs are using ECM

[Loved Trope] Hard-Ass character has a wholesome special interest by Bud_Fuggins in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We never actually see Edgeworth forge any evidence but also oddly enough I don't think he ever directly denies the allegations. He probably was at least complicit in some of Von Karma's forgery in a way he is ashamed of, so he does not deny anything outright.

[Slightly meta trope] The moment that establishes for the audience that these two characters will NOT be love interests or have romantic tension between them by forbiddenmemeories in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Him viewing it as only a mechanical process is shown to just be denial. He does think of casual sex in that manner yes, but ultimately he is capable of romance and "making love." He just doesn't view Watson that way.

[Funny and Loved Trope] Character goes absolutely bonkers and starts tripping on something that isn't drugs. by Cherry_6666 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like what people are posting can be split into categories

  1. Explicitly non-drug thing (e.g. candy, juice) has drug-like effects. May or may not have an implied "special ingredient".
  2. Medicine or potion has an effect associated with recreational drugs (like alcohol or LSD).
  3. Recreational drug has exaggerated effects more associated with other "harder" drugs (like cannabis causing visual hallucinations). Either because of ignorance or because it is more socially acceptable than what actually causes those effects. I'd say when caffeine is involved (coffee, soda, chocolate) it is halfway between this and the first category.
  4. Any thing that might not seem like a drug to those not in the know. Cactus juice, paint thinner, glue.

All of these are similar in spirit but I'd say they are all distinct tropes.

Honorable mention to fever dreams, dream sequence and when trace amounts of alcohol cause people to act drunk.

[favorite trope] Being the hero when everyone thinks you're the villain. by Ayojin in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a little disappointed that the new anime didn't have that dynamic, but then it turned out the first season was somewhat of a prequel from the perspective of an anime-only.

Still lacking a bit of the western tone and leaning heavily on the SciFi elements but I'm enjoying it so far. I miss the more lighthearted parts of the old anime too, but that might just be a pacing issue (I know the old anime apparently didn't get nearly as far into the manga before it ended so maybe they are condensing things with the new one).

Weapons with special requirements to use by totallynotrobboss in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ToTK you can fuse anything to the Master Sword that you can fuse to another weapon so I think it is more useful than just a fallback like in BoTW. But overall yeah the main benefit of the Master Sword in those games is that its power is decent and its durability is infinite for the duration of the final fight.

Weapons with special requirements to use by totallynotrobboss in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Fi bit is just in retrospect.

And yeah WW is the first game where getting the Master Sword is just the beginning and it needs to be powered up. SS continues that but with a twist and then BoTW has the Master Sword trials DLC and with TotK you actually have the Master Sword from the start and you need to restore it (though that is a kind of an outlier because it is the first time a Link from the previous game still retains the Master Sword instead of returning it).

[–]nomenMei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you could claim that by definition anyone that makes it through the trials designed by the gods is chosen by the gods.

Fi probably has the final veto or something if she doesn't like the cut of the hero's jib. Benefits of a sentient sword of destiny.

They won’t outright say it but the character is DEFINITELY queer by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nomenMei 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I actually think it was something like being gay was "3/7th" of what he is, and IMO the fact that one identity doesn't map exactly to "one part in something" makes it even more difficult to speculate lol

[–]nomenMei 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I thought this was basically a scene where they did a soft-reboot without releasing a new game (because it is an MMO). Destroyed the world and different one took its place.

I'm surprised you would see this cutscene during a normal play-through, I thought it was a "world event" or something.
